i had to cross train a co-worker before i went on maternity leave and had the same prob. I told my boss she was an idiot and they should pick soemone else for the job, but she didn't listen. She regreted it...BIG TIME. I don't know what to tell you, except maybe talk to the boss and explain that this person isn't qualified to cross train for the position. Good Luck

You are right, they should already have these skills. However, they were already awarded the job and your employer thinks highly enough of you to train them. I would talk to the manager and let them know the situation and ask them if it would be ok to purchase a CD from Staples or Video Proffesor to teach them the basics. Or you can have them go to microsoftoffice.com for some free training. Other than that, I'm sure you have a book around somewhere on word, give it to them and everytime they ask you a question look it up in the book with them or go to help in word. This will teach them to be dependent on the book and microsoft help, not you.

I know it's frustrating, but hang in there. The other person will either sink or swim if you make them.

Does your boss know that they don't have these skills? They might have fibbed a bit on their application. It's too hard & time consuming trying to teach someone with no computer skills.
