because a) they are hypocrites and two- faced and b) they assume that other people wouldn't notice. and i agree with you: how come people, who insist they are not racist, ask questions that are of a derogatory and racist nature? whether or not, it was intentionally meant to be interpreted that way is another issue altogether. but if the person who had posted it had the slight inclination or worry that the question itself and the nature of it was going to offend people anyway, why did they post it in the first place and why do they feel the need in doing so?

have to say that this was a very good point you made. i applaud you for making it.

Im white and I'm with you! I'll ask anyone anything for any reason. Truthseeking is not racist. But being proud of who you are is not racist. Limiting what that person can do is. And you are absolutely right if you want to throw stones be prepared to have them thrown back at you. I once made dinner for Louis Farakaan and his bodyguard and the Olive Garden in Matteson. I could have spit in it or something but that is childish, I just went out there when he was almost done and asked if everything was ok. He looked at me said nothing and then turned his head like an ***, His bodyguard on the other hand said it was very good and thanked me. There is a perfect example of the difference between having an opinion and just being racist.

I feel some people want to defend themselves because they don't want to be seen as bad people.

What concerns me is the need to base part of your ego on the color of your skin and the background of your family. If people were truly knowledgeable they wouldn't say anything about their ancestors since a larger portion of the earlier settlers and colonist were convicts and indentured servants. I don't like the fact that here if you're black you always have to claim the slavery. I don't like the fact that if you're black you are always considering your position because of your blackness. Then there are the levels of blackness.

I think these questions appear because we have finally opened enough to discuss misconceptions developed due to the isolation created by racism. The ignorance is obvious but there isn't any proven method to deal with it.

Hopefully these people are just trying to learn about the different views that people have. I know that was the cause for a couple of my questions

Maybe they really aren't racist but have a question that might seem racist to others & they just want to clear up the fact that they aren't racist. I'm hispanic & I've dated black, white, & hispanic men but do not like the attitude of black woman, does that make me racist?? I'm not racist, but w/me asking that question it may seem to others that I am...so I clearly state that I'm not racist.

If your are proud of what and who you are why do you feel the need to even ask this question?
Why worry about what others think or say?

I agree. If they are going to try to be coy about it at least they could give a creative reason for asking the question. Maybe the ol' "my friend thinks..." or "I am writing a term paper about..."

Maybe because they want genuine real answers to their question & not a simple "Don't be racist". I agree with MeYost.
