It said so on a flag rules website. Doesn't seem fair to me. Ohio can't do that.

It's TEXAS. I actually don't buy that they do this or it is appropriate in Texas to do so. However, I have met a lot of prideful Texans who think they pretty much their own country.

The fact that Texas can have their flag at the same level as the US flag is authorized by Texas Government Code s 3100.055 (web adress and text below).

Without supporting authority, I do believe it is correct that the justification for this is that Texas was once the Republic of Texas, as an independent nation-state. Owing respect to this fact, Texas can have the flag at the same level (but not above). This is in contrast to other states who entered the Union as territories to states, not nations to states.

You might look to find a US statute which governs the display of flags concurrently with the US flag. There might also be an allowance for this in the Treaty by which Texas entered the Union.

Well, it's a rumor that the Texas flag can fly higher than the US flag. However, it's protocol for the US flag to be flown higher, not law.

Texas was once its own country. It is the only state to have been an independent country before it became part of the US.

Texas law allows for the flag to be flown above the US flag, but with a few restrictions.

I believe that it can fly as high, but not higher. Texas was once an independent country and had that agreement as part of our annexation into the US. When flags are flown on the same pole here, the US flag is on top.

Texas was the only state to enter the Union via treaty, instead of annexation. That's why we can fly our flag as high as the United States Flag.

I live here and have never seen anyone do that, but if it is your own house I guess you can do whatever. I did read actually that it is an urban legend that Texas negotiated this before becoming a state, so pretty sure that is what you saw.

Don't know, but I do know that most gas stations fly a very large american flag, but you won't see one at citgo, not even one tiny one.
I am from Ohio and we have HUGE flags here, just not at Citgo
