Both rovers have been exploring the planet Mars long past what scientists and engineers expected the duration of their lives to be. This is due to the "Dust Devils" ( strong gusts of wind ) creating a sweeping effect on their solar-panels, thereby removing dust and allowing energy from the sun to continue powering the rovers. :)

They built them in a hurry on a tight budget. The project was one near disaster after another. Spirit was almost given up for lost after just a few weeks because of a computer problem.
Even with all that, they went on to be the most successful interplanetary mission ever. They're still ticking after a thousand days, when people had hoped they last a hundred.
