I know that a potential employer cannot discriminate for your being pregnant, but they can say there are other reasons. I am applying for various paralegal positions and the lawyer today was honest and told me that my being pregnant is what would keep me from getting the job. I am not going to report him because I respect the honesty, but I would like to know the experiences of others.

Oh, sorry forgot to mention... I am only 9 weeks along, but my belly has grown 12 inches. My doctor said that some people just show faster. I don't have any morning sickness or anything like that, it is a very calm pregnancy. The only problem would be the maternity leave. You all are providing me with some wonderful information!

You are not required to disclose a pregnancy at first, if you're not showing then you don't have to tell them anything. It's always better to be honest if you can, but not at the risk of not getting a job. Employers will discriminate against you for being pregnant or having kids as well. I have a daughter who has spastic cerebral palsy and whenever I was applying for jobs I told them straight up what her care involved and how often, I now have a WONDERFUL job that I absolutely love and they knew ahead of time what was going on. I'm out of the office once a week for her casting appointments, but they support me. Now that I'm pregnant they're ecstatic! You can find good jobs, and my advice is to be honest no matter what, you'll find the right employer but sometimes you have to through all the bad to get to the one good. Good luck to you!

Finding A Job While Pregnant

2016-12-11 04:32:51 · answer #4 · answered by mondesir 4 · 0 0

I wouldn't tell them you're pregnant to begin with. It's not any of their concern until you have to take time off to have the baby. I got a new job when I was 4 months pregnant. I didn't tell them I was pregnant til I was 6 months along. At that point you know the only reason they could possibly fire you is because you're pregnant, unless there really was something you didn't do right. I thought the same thing when I got this job, are they going to fire me when they find out? It didn't happen, to be quite honest they were very nice about it and offered to rush my insurance. You never know what could happen, but be careful with lawyers because they know loop holes and what not as well.

I've never not been hired for being pregnant, because I don't tell them. I agree that they will just use another excuse not to hire you. Most companies do not want to take time, money, and effort to train someone only to have them leave in a few months. I wait until I'm hired and prove to them that I'm a dependable worker, and then let them know. It's really none of their business. Just remember that unless your in a job for a year they don't have to hold your position for maternity leave. They can't fire you, but you can be demoted or put in a new position. Good luck!

Some of the responces so far have been amazing!

I didn't have a prob when I was pregnant - I worked until 2 days before my bubs was due, and went back to work within 6 weeks. I think I may have been super lucky - plus I didn't show any signs of being pregnant until i was around 5 1/2 months

I could now not be the correct individual to reply this. Anywho I feel your pal demands any person to speak to. I do not feel she is a foul individual for having intercourse. She had intercourse with any person she adored, so thats well in my e-book. I do not feel Jess must attempt to have this man's child at 15. Taking care of a child is difficult paintings. Wait a few years. I comprehend the lonely side to. I've been there. It's remarkable difficult in the beginning. I'm definite down the road that you will not be lonely anymore.

As a matter of fact it depends on a few things,How far along you are in your pregnancy and who the employer is and what type of job you are applying for ...I was 5 monthes pregnant and was hired as a hostess ..The manager that hired me I later learned caught hell because I could of fell on their premises or just GOT hurt .Altho the potential employer is not to show discrimination they will most certainly factor in your pregnancy and will choose another reason for not hiring you .

Yes it is because the employer knows that performance can be effected. Morning sickness, appointments, and unless the woman was already an employee, most employers would rather not deal with it in a new hire.
