In the short term not many at all, because the jobs would be awarded on merit.

The whole concept of affirmative action acts as a deterrent to women from gaining any real skills or experience which would qualify them for such jobs because they know they can sneak in under a quota based system.

If affirmative action and quota systems were abolished then there would be real incentive for women to perform better and be promoted.

How many? You want an exact number? Well, whats the exact number of jobs gotten thru affirmative action, and I can try to give you an answer.

In a general way however, the answer to your question is 'fewer'. Obviously, if you do NOT motivate the typically male heads of companies to hire women, they will naturally hire fewer of them than otherwise. Particularly since most male heads of companies are under the impression that higher-level jobs are best held by their fellow males.

Fewer, because women are still considered not as able to do the higher-level jobs and also a risky proposition for any job. In fact, in Pennsylvania, where I live, it's still legal for workplaces to inquire into a woman applicant's marital and parenthood status. They can then use this information to decide not to hire her because she might take a lot of time off to care for her kids or something. It's terribly unfair, and emblematic of the problems that women still face out there.
