Nope! Shell out the cash to have it done. Well, you could remove the heads yourself and just take them to a machine shop. That would save you some scratch. Make sure you drain your oil and replace it with new and do so again after about 100 miles of driving. Keep flushing the oil system until your oil is clean.

Pulling the heads yourself is your most economical choice. If you can follow directions, have basic tools(usually you can rent specialty tools from parts stores), and have some mechanical ability, you should be able to do it. Unless your head/block is cracked, all you will need are new gaskets (no machine work necessary), and oil/coolant. If you have a crack, that is a whole other ball game. You could easily do it yourself for under $200-$300. Get a Chilton manual, and gasket price quote (you'll need more than the head gasket (i.e. intake manifold, plenum, exhaust manifold (usually can be bought as a set))) from Kragen or other parts store.
I would not recommend spending $2500 to fix a 10yr old car, unless it is really nice.

Going through all the trouble to pull the heads and then using that crap instead of buying new gaskets would be about as smart as starting a land war in southeast Asia.

that is sucking air! sounds like Dad's ignored something, there's a pipe that runs from the cam container and splits into 2 pipes, one large is going to the bottom of the air clear out housing, the different smaller diameter is going to a stub on the inlet manifold, if both of those is off,or holed or damaged the engine will suck air in by those, and this air isn't measured by technique of the air pass meter so the gasoline air blend is all to hell. so verify that pipe, verify the inlet manifold and everywhere else between the AFM and the throttle body.
