Las (not Los) Vegas is a great place to live. 5000 people come here each week, and that is the amount that stays to live. It is getting crowded, very crowded. There is maintenance on all the major roads constantly. Buildings and houses are going up all over the place. And when they don't have room, something old is torn down to accommodate the new. With the new mega-casinos comes new higher prices. Gone are the days of $1.99 buffets or dollar drinks. The average apartment rent is almost $900. Gas costs more than the national average all the time. If you have a marketable skill you should do well, but keep in mind that there are thousands of people coming in every month and their will be competition for jobs. Las Vegas has been rated the 3rd or 4th most dangerous city recently. But I've been here for 28 years and I love it here, wouldn't consider any other place.

I moved to Vegas about 4 years ago. the first thing learned is that this is a 24 hour town. You can do almost anything any hour of the day. Schools are not the best, but I think they are really trying. traffic has grown a lot in the past couple of years, but the freeways are being updated to handle the flow. Night life here is amazing. Clubs for any type of entertainment you could possibly want. Log on the the City of Las Vegas website to learn more.

The first thing you should probably know is that it's *Las* Vegas. The second is that you've miscategorized this. Attention to detail is important when looking for a job, even in Vegas.
The city is growing, so jobs are available. Try looking on monster.com or in the local las vegas newspaper online classifieds to see if they fit your skill set.
The schools range from OK to Sucky. The college is good.
Traffic, in a word, sucks. The roads are not adequate for the amount of population. To get from Summerlin to the airport can take an hour - and it's only 15-20 miles.
Crime is more prevalent because of the influx of population and the influx of criminals. There are alot more home invasion robberies than their used to be and alot more gang violence. Low lifes that couldn't afford LA anymore are moving to Vegas and setting up shop.
There are certainly activities for everyone. From gambling to night clubs to hiking to museums.

I can tell you! I beliee I have a good spin on the pros and cons because I am a native New Yorker that has lived in Las Vegas for 7 years. I have since moved back to New York.
Pros:
cost of living is hella cheap.
apartments go for about 750 for one bedroom and 900+ for a two bedroom. these apartments come with central air, washer/dryer, parking, dishwasher, trash compactor, and a lot of amenities that New York apartments don't even come close to offering. see www.rent.com
the streets are clean. i have yet to see trash sprawled all over the place from day one of living there.
no potholes.
sunny 310 days out of the year. that means, you don't have to watch the weather report everyday...forecast? SUNNY!
the nightlife is great.
it's a 24 hour town. if you want eggs benedict at 3 am, the only problem you'll have is deciding which restaurant to go to.
if you like gambling, you are in the no.1 spot in the world for casinos.
everywhere in the city is within a 20 drive (minus traffic of course, then it's about 40 mins)
people are friendly. i am grateful for the friends i made in Vegas.
no snow! (with the exception of the few flurries i saw in the northwest region. that was only about 2 inches)
meeting people is never a problem. practically everyone i know there is not a native...which means that they are more open to networking and developing friendships.
it's 3.5 hours away from los angeles. (not really a pro if you ask me but i was longing to see the pacific ocean and there it was)
beautifull sunsets...i saw every color created by god in the sky during the best sunsets in las vegas.
and lastly, Vegas is a big town with small town appeal.
now for the cons...
construction never ceases...i swear, the orange cone is the official Vegas flower. they spring up at odd times and everywhere!
traffic can be a *****!
there are only two ways in, and two ways out...on the 95 and the I-15.
car insurance is high...thanks to 15 year old drivers, 90 year olds with huge red glasses and drunk maniacs.
no culture or ethnic neighborhoods. people are spread out all over the city.
too many high school drop outs. i used to work with a children's foundation and the amount of pregnant drop outs was disappointing. these are the same kids that wind up working for the casinos, making 60,000 a year on their 8th grade education.
the workforce is primarily blue collar (construction, real estate or casino) or working for local govt (county, or city)
cars cost too daggone much. i can get a car in nyc for 1500. in vegas, the same car will cost me 5000.
they don't do a thing about the homeless situation.
gangs and crime are not on the decline in vegas. i have met way too many 12 year olds with a record.
they don't stand firm on dead beat dads. the child support system is garbage!!!
LOTSA DUST!!!
very dry air. very hard water...which means bad skin, bad hair, and harsh on your clothes.
public transportation is a joke. the buses break down in 120 degree weather...which brings me to my last point:
120 DEGREE WEATHER DURING THE SUMMER!
I would move back...but I am enjoying my hometown right now. Perhaps when I get bored with the hustle and bustle of NYC, then I'll go back!
Good luck!

CONS:
The job market is great if you want to get stuck working at a Casino, or if you want to be a stripper, but horrible if you actually have a college degree. (I was over qualified for everything, so I started my own business 3 years ago)
The schools here rank at the bottom in the nation. Teachers are underpaid and the Board of Education is full of corrupt politicians. There have been numerous school shootings in the last month.
Traffic is rediculous, especially the highways. There are not enough lanes for this many cars! Practically every major street is "under construction". (We call Vegas "pylon city").
Crime is out of control, and getting worse every day.
We have a huge homeless problem here, and a significant amount of people who live here, live in poverty.
The housing market was affordable 5 years ago, but not anymore.
In my opinion this is NOT the place to try to raise a family, but a great place to live if you don't have kids!
PROS:
No state tax.
With the exception of June - August, the weather is awesome.
Nightlife is the best in the country. Since this is a "24-hour town", it is a great place to live if you are a night owl.
Locals have lots of stuff to do here - hiking, camping, boating, outdoor festivals...great restaurants, great shopping...if you can afford it.

Vegas is one of the fastest growing cities in America. They have jobs available and you can find relatively cheap housing. There are tons of night clubs that open all night. However, the weather in the summer is unbearable. Also, you will be tempted by the gambling.

It is one of the least expensive cities in America, and there are a lot of jobs for those with relatively minimal skills. Winter weather is pleasantly warm.
It is incredibly hot in summer. It is also a desert climate, which may not appeal to those who like greenery. The population is mostly new and relatively transient; very few people have roots or long-term ties to the area.
