i have a daughter who is 8 months old. she is very good at going to bed if she has her bottle, however, she will wake up a few times in the night and needs her bottle to get back to bed. doing this bottle thing works great, but the experts say that you shouldnt put your baby to bed with a bottle because he causes tooth decay.
i have tried giving her water but she just screams and shuts her mouth when i try to give it to her. what can i do? and also how do i get her to sleep though the night?

Don't give her the bottle anymore. We took my baby bottle away little by little.

For instance, the first night, if she wakes up twice, give it to her once.

She really doesn't "need" it, especially if she has a full one before she goes to bed, and it's just a comfort thing.

We started to take the bottle away for good once we started to take it away at night.

IF she wakes up three times in one night, the first night give her the bottle, twice, then the second night once, etc.

Try to lessen the entire bottle intake, and switch it with a cute sippy cup. We usually use Gerber, or cute cups that change colors, or ones with the favorite character, they can be expensive but they can also help a lot.

My 10 month old is the same way. But I have started to give him some watered down juice, and are you feeding her food yet? The ones in the jar? I have a new thing where I will take my 10 month old, wrap him up in a blanket, dim all the lights and rock him to sleep, while singing to him. And it works. Now he still wakes up in the middle of the night for a bottle and I will give it to him, but he is getting better. You will just have to do a new way to get her to sleep. And trust me, I understand how it is, when you wake from a deep sleep at 2 in the morning with a crying baby. Wanting to get back into bed fast is a want, But sometimes, you just have to let that go and tend to your baby. And as far as sleeping through the night, you can try giving her a warm bath before bed time with some of that lavendar scent baby wash and lotion. Give her a warm bottle and rock her to sleep. Don't put cereal in the bottle because that will only make her fat. It won't get her to sleep all night. Sorry. It can also give them ear aches. All babies are different and one day she will sleep all night just give her time. :)

Do not give the baby a bottle at all when you put her in to bed. Feed her before she goes to bed and make sure she is not gassed up. Having gas for a baby makes them think they are hungry. If she awakens in the night get up and feed her. There are also concerns about letting the baby have a bottle in the crib such as choking on the nipple or the formula.

She's probably waking up because she is expecting you to feed her, mostly out of habit. At this age babies typically no longer need middle of the night feedings. Let her fuss a little to see if she can soothe herself back to sleep. If she needs some help, go in and rub her back. Don't talk to her, don't turn on the lights. Try to teach her ways to soothe herself, such as giving her a pacifier, letting her suck her thumb, or giving her a lovey. Be sure not to rush in when she starts to cry. Give her a chance to soothe herself first.

Good luck.

You got her into this habit so you have to be consistent in getting her out of it. It'll be a battle but if you stick with not giving her a bottle at night she will eventually wear out of it. You can't give in, if you do, she will learn that if she screams long and hard enough then you will get what she wants. Consistency, consistency, consistency!!!

try walking her around till she sleeps. don't give in and give her the bottle. just be patient. she'll throw a few tantrums still she finally gets used to not having a bottle at night...but eventually she'll get used to it and start sleeping thru the night. it'll take time...but u'll get there.

My daughter does the same thing. I pat my daughter on the back until she falls asleep. If that doesn't work, put a rocking chair in her room and rock her back to sleep.

Rock her when she wakes up until she falls back asleep then put her back in her bed.

you have to let her get used to not having it. you might have to let her cry a couple nights but when she realizes your not giving in she will go to sleep. after about 4 days she will get used to it.
