If you have cable, get it from your cable company. If you have satellite TV, call your satellite provider.
Both options are usually cheap (I pay and additional $5 a month on top of my regular service charge for two Tivo boxes from DirecTV). $60 dollars a year is pretty cheap if you ask me.
That's $5 total for Tivo - not $5 per box for Tivo.

I have a replay which I think was less expensive than TIVO. It has a feature which you can turn on to skip the commercials. Me and me husband haven't watched commercials in years. It was a great investment.

If you have a TV tuner for your computer you can use Myth TV (free) or Beyond TV (paid)
http://www.mythtv.org/modules.php?name=MythFeatures
or
http://www.snapstream.com/products/beyondtv/
You can then stream to a TV or watch on the computer.
ReplayTV is now out of the hardware business and is focussing on a NOV launch of a PC DVR like those above in conjunction with Hauppage (a TV CARD manufacturer)...the PC version will not have the commercial skip feature.
