I am 41 yrs old and I noticed it after the last time I moved heavy furniture. Sometimes, it hurts while I am standing or walking. When I sit down, no pain.

Those are classic symptoms of umbilical hernia. I would see an internist/surgeon to have it repaired.

Good luck!

Believe it or not I just left the DR's office a little while ago with the very same problem. I have the typical pot belly. He said that because my belly muscles were already stretched out it caused the hernia. What actually happened is that the bowels ltterally pushed through the abdominal muscle. The only cure is surgery to repair the torn muscle. Try this...push on the protrusion and see if it goes in. If you feel it pop back in then you definately have an umbilical hernia.According to the DR. if it isnt causing any pain, and isnt giving you any trouble when using the bathroom then it isnt critical....surgery is elective. If you start to feel pain or have problems with constipation then it becomes critical and could be life threatening. If the bowel is pushed through the muscle and becomes strangulated then it could become infected and gangrene can set in. Be very careful with this.........Don

I can't believe a 41 year old is asking this. No, and outy is not a hernia. A hernia happens by your groin.

It does sound like you may have an umbilical hernia; your doctor would be able to tell you for sure and would be able to let you know if it can be taken care of by 'watchful waiting' or if you need surgery to repair the problem.

It probably is a hernia. You should at least go have it checked out to see. if left untreated it can cause you serious problems later.

it might be an Umbilical Hernia. You should get it checke dout sometime, especially if it starts to bother you. It is good to catch those sooner, it means less surgery and less pain!

Could be. BUT, see your doctor who is qualified, trained, and licensed to give medical advice. People on this site are not.
