The best way is to just face your problems and deal with them. Recognize that it's something that has happened in the past and that nothing you ever do will possibly change that. Learn from your mistakes and learn to put yourself above them. Never forget them, but don't let what has happened in the past affect you in the present.
If you try to "tune them out", you may experience a breakdown if something happens that brings those memories back. If you learn to cope with them, something that reminds you of those times might make you uncomfortable, but you will ultimately be better because of it.

Thought would much rather be carried by good than bad, so create a dream that is nice for you. It could be fantasy or it could be how you are going to be or live in time after you have made changes in your life. The dreams (holding onto good dreams) will free up your thought to contemplate things other than pain and bad memories.

Good question...my most painful and still existing thoughts is of my ex of 2 and a half yrs. She got with her ex before me again and they have been fcukin for a like 4 months now...that thought absolutely kills me and I cant do anything about it get it the *** outta my damn head. But hey, what can ya do? Just tough it out I guess and think abt the decent future that may come your way. But yea, i do feel ya and ur not alone.

I've found that looking outside myself has helped me immensely. In sharing of myself, I've found that my burdens have been greatly lifted. I've tried to view my negative experiences as life lessons to refine my soul and hand it over to the universe. I am not very religious, but I've discovered that a little faith goes a long way. Everytime you have a bad thought, whisper to yourself that thought is cancelled and replaced with a good one. It takes practice, but eventually, it will come naturally. As cliche as it sounds, there is always a silver lining in everything. You just have to open your eyes to it.

many strategies...
trying to rationalize why it is happened if it doesn't work ...trying to avoid thinking by keeping myself busy if it is still nagging then I'll cry for a while to let my pain out....but i think time is a great helper in forgetting or at least adopting to this kind of feelings

the trick is not tuning them out out, but getting them out where you can deal with them. ignoring them won't make them go away.
