Interesting article I read, not sure of the actual factual content. This person who claimed to be a psychologist wrote it. In the Article it mentioned how Feminism, at first, was a great idea as far as getting equality for the female gender. Further on it explained how in the 90's and now in the year 2006, the femenist movement moved from equailty to special treatment. Stating how in some cases, these groups would want employers to hold a womans job on hold while she gave birth and nursed. This person stated that because of situations like these, the issue no longer is equality but special treatment. When forcing an employer to hold a job for a female because of these sircumstances, sircumstances that a male doesn't have, is pushing the limit. Why should an employer have to loose business or money because of a person and a group pushing a self serving agenda.

Your thoughts?

women are behaving like any other special interest group whether it be blacks, women, handicapped, immigrants. They say they want equality but they want everything to be changed to suit them. Women's lib has ruined women and as a woman, they have taken away my choice to be treated like a lady and enjoy the courtesies that we used to enjoy before women decided to try being men. They can't accept the fact that they are not men. If a woman wants a child, she should give up her job and take care of that child. My sex has gotten way out of hand and need to get back traditional values instead of trying to be men.

I think that example represents equality, not special treatment. Men, who have traditionally been the ones in employment, have never had to face issues like birth. Therefore, the rules of the workplace don't address things like this. It is hard to conceptualize this as equality, because the traditional rules of employment are based around men and their needs. If women were in the position of power in the past, the rules associated with employment would account for birth and other women's needs. I would definitely say that a woman deserves to hold on to her job after maternity leave. This isn't special treatment. Men are able to get a job and keep while starting a family. Why shouldn't women be.

good question, hope i have a good answer for you.
as a generalization if an employer has a good worker and that person is ill, or goes off to war, would you expect the employer to hold that job for the person? without getting into specifics of the
type of job, number of employees etc, if the boss is a human being and has compassion, yes that person will hold the job for
that person. giving birth to a child is a special event and should not be penalized for happening 9 and it does take a male to make it happen too)..so i would say that the situation of birth and post natal care is not asking for special treatment, but it certainly should be given special treatment because it is a sacred moment
for all involved

If men could have babies, contraception would be a sacrament. And paternity leave would be a non-negotiable right.

It's not about special treatment, but about trying to even out the playing field a bit. The man gets the enjoyment and fulfillment of having a kid, but without the physical stress. For women, it's often a choice of career or kids -- look at the stats, mothers just don't advance or get paid as much as single women and way less than men. Still, after thirtysome years of 'progress.'

Society needs the next generation. We all benefit from a good maternity leave system.

Women don't want special treatment, just equality. If men gave birth, they would want for their job to be held too; especially if they were the best one for it. Also, you cannot force anyone to do anything. Even if it is a life and death situation, it is still your choice. Another thing is that if the employer is worried about his employee having a self serving agenda, then by firing the employee the employer is serving himself because he just wants to make money, so that is no longer an excuse.

Sounds pretty dumb discussion. Only women can have babies. (Evolutionists have no good explanation of how babies are made without both male and the complex female being together at about the same timeframe!!)

Yes, let's go back to the all male workforce! Our families (children) would probably not suffer so much and would feel cared for. As a teacher I see how desparate children are for companionship and acknowledgement. Children need to be known and loved and also to know their parents. How can they without someone who cares about them being there for them, at least when they get home from school.

To the dumb men who wrote that article and their hollow soul, go support a woman freely (without expecting sexual gratification)who needs financial support and feed your soul in so doing.

We do NOT want special treatment. We just don't want to be "punished" for being who we are. In the case of maternity leave, the woman has no choice but to be the biological vessel for the creation of a child. Why should that negatively impact her career? Why should it be ASSUMED that she'll just want to leave her job and be the happy little homemaker for the rest of her life? Men need to grow up, stop whining, adn stop pretending like they're being mistreated.

Populating the world is both necessary and personally fulfilling. It is not merely a personal agenda for which women want special treatment.

Ask yourself, Would you rather your Mother had worked or had you??
