It makes no sense when you can't feed the ones you've got to keep on having more. I see it as just plain laziness and irresponsiblity. I think that when people sign up for public assistance, the minute they have another child, they should be cut off, actually sterilization should be mandatory as these people should have no more rights when someone else is feeding them. Many people use religion as an excuse, they can't use birth control or have an abortion because it is a sin but at the same time they sleep with every man in town and drink and take drugs, which is also a sin.

to the person who said they are adults and it isn't any of my business, well as a tax payer who never goes to the doctor and doesn't have a lot of fancy food to eat and walks everywhere, I do care if my taxes are wasted on this slime

Omg you are my hero!!!! I feel the same way except i'm not for abortion. If you can't afford a kid, don't have sex. If you have sex and get pregnant anyways; sucks for you go out and get a job. I can't stand the "I'm young," excuse. So freakin what. I had a child at 18 and another at 19. I have never been on welfare. Their father and I both work to provide for them. I would love to stay at home with my kids. I think it's ridiculous that a single mom with no income can stay home with her children yet my children have a father that works his butt off to provide and I sTILL have to work to make ends meet. Why should they get rewarded for being a single mom? Maybe if the government would drop the welfare program I could stay home with my kids again. I earn it, I use it. When they earn it, they can use it to. It's funny; Do you know how many people on this site have internet but can't afford to get off of welfare? It's odd isn't it.

I agree, once is forgivable but twice shame on them. We as citizens who work for a living and pay taxes need to find a way to stop this crap. The average person who is on welfare makes about $35,000 a year between rent, daycare, electricity, etc. Of course that could be more now since prices are going up all of the time. Originally when welfare came out I don't know when but this was only intended for either the young mothers or the people that were too disabled to work. I am watching a baby her mother is 19 and single, she is going to college full-time , taking nursing classes and works full time in a nursing home as a cna.
She is working hard so she doesn't have to go on welfare. The father is a lazy piece of garbage, she is trying to get child support, but he jumps around from job to job and never stays long enough to receive any. Something needs to be done with these dead beat fathers as well. Anyway all she is getting is WIC. That's what people need to do is to take the initiative to strive to make a good life for themselves and their child or children. Oh yes either take the pill or get a tubiligation.

well i know a lot of people who have kids because of welfare, the more kids u have the more money u get, my aunt is pretty much a loser, she has 7 kids, and she's 43, she just had her last because my grandfather made her tie her tubes, her youngest is 16 mos, and her oldest is 27, she pretty much had her last so she could stay on welfare for 18 more yrs, she collects some of her kids social security saying they are dyslexic, it's sad her kids r the same way. i agree like when u collect ur income tax they say they only count 3 kids any more than that u don't get extra money 4.. why doesn't welfare do the same thing, m o school. why aren't all social workers like that? I once said they should be sterilized also but that would take away some of the rights of us americans, it'd be against the constitution, so they should limit the amount of kids that will be included and make them work, do community service or go to school!!! Only some people do the "work for welfare" program it depends on ur social worker, some have so many clients they can't make sure everyone is doing it. i know about 10 people on welfare only 1 out of the ten is told to get to work which is my mother in law! so they r probably more people abusing the system then there are that do it for actual help! and for the person that said " colored " u say u're not prejudice but that's a prejudice slang word, u're probably white, white is also a color, i'm not black but i once heard this somewhere "i'll always be black, but when ur sick u'll be green, when u're hot u'll be red, when u're sad u'll be blue, but i'll always be black and u're calling me colored" i always thought that was so funny! We're all equal so treat everyone like that!!

Thaylen said it all. You're making some pretty sweeping generalizations. So b/c my five-month-old daughter receives government-financed healthcare b/c we can't pay for it, does that mean we shouldn't be allowed to have any more children? Even though my husband works two jobs? Are you bashing only those who receive welfare checks, or people who are on any kind of public assistance at all? Those are some mighty harsh words toward people you essentially know NOTHING about. I don't sleep around; I don't do drugs; I don't get drunk. Maybe the ppl you're thinking of do these things, but don't assume that being on welfare=irresponsibility. You're treading on thin ice. One day it could be you. What if you lose your job due to a layoff? What if your children get sick and you have no way to pay? What if you had three children and your husband left you, or worse, passed away? There are so many different situations to consider. Not all welfare recipients are irresponsible and "lazy" as you put it. Sorry to be so defensive, but labeling and stereotyping is never right.

That is shameful behavior. You have hit the nail on the head. I was not aware of the religious aspect (excuse, really) about birth control. The question is why are they spreading themselves all about the place, breedinglike flies and expecting someone else to mind their fatherless babies? Do their religions support loose sex?

Are they not ashamed to do that, then go begging and expecting help as though it is their God-given right. I should say inalienable right.'

I believe welfare should be for people who are unable to work for reasons such as injury, mental incapacity, handicap or some such valid reason that makes them physically unfit to function adequately and earn a living. Barring any such problem, they should be made to go out to work - no hand-outs. It is a shame and I fail to see how it gives them any sense of self.

There should be limits on the length of time welfare is made available, viz. six months to get work and then no more freeness.
If they insist on their loose living and having sex like that is the only form or recreation, then pushing out baby after baby, let them mind them however they can. And if they commit crimes to get more 'free money', deal with them legally.

This is so incredibly biased and incorrect. In this country everyone can have as many children as they want to regardless of their financial status. It is a civil and human right to do so. People on welfare, (your generalization), have jobs too and pay taxes just like everyone else. SOME people may abuse the system but certainly not everyone and you must think they get a whole lot of money or benefits. It is fortunate that the people who are quick to criticize are in a position that they feel justified. Life is an ever changing thing and these same people may find themselves on the same side as the ones they are putting down now. You don't know what the future has in store.

I am against people who abuse the system, be it welfare or ENRON.

However, I do believe that people that truly need the help should recieve it.

Example:
What about the divorced women, being that the husband left her and the kids high and dry? In transition to thier lifestyle and waiting on alimony and child support, what can they do?

You do have working mothers that are on welfare.

Also, people's situations can change.

You want to cut them off too?

Rule of thumb:

NEVER judge other people's situation and look down on others.

You'll never know if one day you will be on the recieving end.

I think a better question would be why our welfare system encourages dependency on public assistance? I work at a place that has a lot of welfare recipients working there (work or lose your benefits!) and though we make the same wages, they get free transportation, food stamps, med care. I have to pay for these things. So should they!

I hate people that scam the system they have more kids and more kids to get more benefits how many actually try to get off welfare if they get free medical and free foodstamps and cash from the state they know how to milk the system and most of these people who are getting it are either foreigners or colored, now im not prejudiced, but it seems if you have 1 kid i can see getting it but more then 1 and on it your taking advantage of the system. , we give all this aid to everyone and a true us citizen born in the usa and lived here all their life. cannot get it, why is this ?

If you check some of the history of repeat welfare babies, it is a learned behavior. They don't know anything different until someone changes the law. Until that time we do support a lot of people who could get a job and work to support their family. Sometimes, it only takes one voice to start an idea rolling. Maybe you have?
