I understand that colds cannot be cured with antibiotics, as they are viral, butat what time during the common cold should i go to the doc? Also, do you have any remedies? I live in a dorm, so firstly, I don't want to get my rommmates sick (because I don't want to get sick just as much as they don't)

Help!

I wouldn't waste my time going to the doctor. If your symptoms are really bothering you just get some OTC drugs. Maybe pop a few echinacea and drink some O.J. and eat red peppers but other than that ride it out. If you have a persistent cough, like really bad, it may be pneumonia and then you should see your doctor.

Id say the point where there is alot of fluid in your lungs and you have trouble breathing.

As far as treatment/prevention, what i do is drink more green tea than normal once the first sign, a sore throat, comes on. Like four times a day till the feeling goes away. Using expectorants like cat's claw. Use echinacea and garlic for the immune system. Then drink at least a cup a day. Also, for nasties like stomach viruses I use oregano oil, five drops a day in some orange juice. With this regiment I dont get sick anymore, and if i do get a bug its gets destroyed before it can multiply.

If breathing is a problem put five drops of eucalyptis oil in some water then down the hatch--it will open up those bronchials right away! It is also good for congestion.

Most essential oils can be bought online for much cheaper than the stores.

CRUCIAL: Make sure you're buying "essential oil" and not the fake "oil of" whatever. Those are synthetic oils.

Antibiotics will not work on the virus. Only when/if it becomes an infection will it do you any good, and chances are ten days from now you will be back to your normal self. As far as roomies go, they could catch a cold at the market too. It is part of living with others (the chance of sharing a virus). Wash your hands a lot, cough in a napkin, and get well.

You are right, the only thing that a doc can do for a cold is give you something to make you feel better. But you will have to ride it out. Go to the doctor if you have ear pain, or suspect congestion of the bronchial tube or lungs. That would indicate an infection that needs antibiotics. Have someone with you, breathe deeply and have them hold their ear to your back (lung area) or use their hand....if they hear or feel a "rattle" I would get it checked out. No fear mongering here, but bronchitas can become pnemonia.

Depending on what nation you are in, you can also or won't to be equipped to get it off a few web sites... I advocate getting Doctor Who episodes from Pirate Bay... Cold Blood for a few motive wasn't to be had and needed to move by way of Isohunt to get it even though it was once nonetheless associated with Pirate Bay... Enjoy!

If your cold is really bad, like mine was, I would recommend Cold Md. It is a new medicine that not only is good for the common cold but, it is also good for the flu-like symptoms. I saw it advertised in a tv. commercial and I went to Wlamart and bought it and it took away all my sneezing and mucus. Try it and see if that would help you, cope with your cold.

you should go to the docter when it starts getting to the point where you cant concentrate cause it's bothering you so bad, O.J. and cough drops help a lot during the day but at night cough syrup or cold meds help alot, they may taste like crap but it will help so much that you will feel alot better by morning! hope you get better!
