Welcome to "Supply and Demand".
The problem is, most people do not schedule their holiday's early enough. Then, when they want tickets, there are not as many left, which causes a price increase.
For example, I booked my Christmas tickets to Eastern Europe this year, in September for $1015. By October, my friend had a selection of 4 seats on the same dates at $1600. Today, you can't get a ticket.
My advice is always "book early". The airlines know they will fill the planes on school holidays, so they will maximize their profits then. When seats are not in demand, the prices fall.
Oh, and use a wholesaler... they can get you cheaper tickets than the online services.

I am really livid at this !!!
The cost of aircraft fuel does not change during school holidays ,Neither does the cost of the destination hotel.
Just skimming money from parents because they know we cant take the holiday at any other times.
The only way out is a regular flight and find your own accommodation.
I don't think you can blame the travel agents though. Its the Charter company's that have this practise.

Whatever business one may be in, the aim is to make maximum profit. When demand is high, it seems reasonable for prices to be higher. There's no "right or wrong" about it. We didn't think it mattered too much about using the last week of term for part of our holiday, but not the first week of a new term, as that would be too worrying for the children. For cheaper holidays later we bought a tent and could use it for extra week-end breaks.

It's digusting. I'm a single mum and I don't get help from my ex (because the c.s.a is useless) and I struggle to afford one during the school term let alone during the school holidays.
