I want to see if my local pet shop owner will hire me .But I can't use the term "hire" and she can't "hire" me. Because I am only thirteen. How do I ask her to give me a job that PAYS without her thinking I want to volunteer? I need some suggestions!

Good help is difficult to find in pet shops and they cannot legally hire you. If you are entrpreneurial and industrious (which it sounds like you are) go in and say, up front, "I am a very good worker and have a real love for animals. While I know you cnnot legally hire me, let me work around here for a week and you pay me what you think I am worth"...then you need to perform. Do jobs, like cleaning cages and help the store look nicer with good merchandising. Also, bring new ideas of things you can do to help the store be a better place to shop. If you get tht far I can give you lots more ideas!

In most states, if not all, child labor is totally illegal. That means that until you are 16 (15 in some states I believe) you cannot legally have a paying job as such. There are some businesses who can get special dispensation and some states that have special situation clauses etc... but these generally only apply to very specific cases, if they exist at all.

you should be able to get work papers from your school counselor, I got one when I was 12 for a paper route.
you can have a part time job though your work hours are limited by law
explain to the store owner that you would like to earn some extra money, that will remove any doubt about pay

Perhaps you could ask her to let your work in her pet shop as a 'volunteer', but for her to pay your expenses (travel, meals, protective clothing, etc.,) at a level that would be, in effect, a wage. It's worth a try. Good luck!

Just ask. Best for her not to do this as she could get into lots of trouble especially if you get hurt.
Best thing for you to do is wait until you are 15 to find a job.

I'm sorry but you can't do that. If you want a paying job, help your parents around the house and do your chores.

Obviously you don't, since you're not old enough to work there. why would she hire a 13 year old anyway?? You know you're not old enough to work there, so I'm not sure why you think she'd put her business in jeopardy to help you.
