,,,,almost as if there were no compression (as when the ignition module has been fried). Sometimes, the engine will crank and run, very poorly, for two or three seconds.

I suspect an engine diagnostic computer would be unable to help, since I'm never near one when the temps are high enough to cause the engine not to crank.

By the way, thanks for the answers, and I hope you'll forgive my not giving you sufficient info. I didn't know you couldn't add another comment in answer to the answers.

Thanks Y'all!

Sorry it will be hard to tell you without seeing it. What I can say is stay away from GM cars. I had a 01 Montana that drove me to bankruptcy. Constant electrical problems. I was a Ford man for years, then Dodge,G.M. and now either Mazda or Toyota.

There is no need to be near a code reader or scanner only when there is a failure. If there is a powertrain management failure or fault present, even in history, the PCM stores code(s) and they remain there for some time, or until they are erased with a code reader.
First step; Gather the codes, and write them and their definitions down, then refer to a repair manual for proper diagnostics and repair procedures.

Good Luck
