I know it was about him saying that Bush was stupid, but how does saying that the troops are uneducated say that Bush is stupid?

There wasn't one. Don't let his back-peddling fool you.
He said what he said and he was NOT talking about Bush! He made a direct insult to every single member of the military and to those of us who raised them. I have 2 of my kids in the military. And guess what? They joined because "gasp" they love their country. My daughter has seen two tours this war and would go back in a heartbeat. She is an extremely smart, educated and well spoken young woman. Kerry is an idiot. He can't even understand that what he said isn't being perceived as a joke. He needs to be a man and say he is sorry. But he won't because he said what he meant. Way to damage your democratic vote for next week, John.

He didnt say any such thing about the soldiers. That was White House spin talking.

The joke was supposed to be delivered like this: "I can't overstress the importance of a great education. Do you know where you end up if you don't study, if you aren't smart, if you're intellectually lazy? You end up getting us stuck in a war in Iraq."

Unfortunately, Kerry neglected to say "us", and instead said "You end up getting stuck in Iraq."

Even here, the "you" is ambiguous.

Kerry says "'you' get stuck in Iraq" means Bush gets stuck in Iraq. Bush says "'you' get stuck in Iraq" means soldiers get stuck in Iraq.

Its a matter of interpretation and misrepresentation. Clearly, the White House is distorting the botched joke for whatever mileage they can get out of it.

Perhaps Kerry should be held accountable for botching a joke.
Bush should be held accountable for his crimes.

shelly said it.

The way it reads to me and My Daughter that teaches English is a jab at Bush and his study practice at Yale.

It could be a Bush bought his 1 point grade average thing. Many people have been making a big deal about Bush getting a better grade in Cheerleading than Kerry got in Science.

It was suppose to be a "dig" at Bush.. but by leaving the little word "us" out of his statement... he changed the entire meaning of what he said.

Kerry IS one of US troops so he could never insult us.

Bush hid from the VietCong in a cushy stateside champagne drinking unit reserved for NFL players and Politicians sons.

He gets appointed in 2000, and NOW he claims to support us.
Not buyin it.

He was just making an honest point that Bush's blind ambition in Iraq is wasting a lot of lives and resources.

The desperate GOP spinned it.
