We have the best government money can buy.
It has been estimated that the combined total of money spent by the Republicans and Democrats for the 2006 election campaign is $2.6 billion.
The majority of this money comes from corporate interests that expect to get paid back in governmental favors. This is nothing more than legalized bribery.
That is not even addressing the problem with the lobbyists.

Gosh, if you think it's screwed up now, you should've seen it back in the 1960's during the Vietnam war and civil rights movement!
Then there was Watergate... 2 years of Watergate, and another 2-4 years to recover from it!
I hear that the 1950's had the House Un-Americans Committee... bad mojo there too.
The 1940's had all that nasty WW2 stuff, along with the Marshall plan... what a wreck!
Shall we rehash the problems in the 1930's and the Great Depression? How about those colorful War of 1812 years? I hear that Lincoln was less popular than Dubya before he was shot....
Perhaps this "messed up" state is actually pretty good by comparison???????
And I fail to see where "hard line christian groups influence political decisions" since porn is more available than ever, millions of abortions are performed, no one is required to go to church, every business is open in Sunday... shall I go on?
Global warming -- gosh, we've had 2 snows already in southern Michigan, how did that happen? I'll buy "global climate change", but not "global warming." And, since the ground I'm standing on has been both a tropical swamp as well as buried under glaciers, I'm figuring weather does change from time to time.
What's wrong with America? Well, someone is shoveling lots of bogus ideas that people consume, all without listening to both sides. Your post is proof of that, and the fact that you will probably flag my post with either a thumbs down or an outright abuse flag is proof that you don't want to listen to both sides of any issue.

because the most important motivator is money. It is inbred into the American psyche that having money to buy stuff is the most important thing. That's why the US obsessed with consumerism. That's why big business can influence politicians - by offering them money, so they can afford to get elected. Politicians lie because they have to. If they told the truth, no one in their right mind would elect them.

Not the Democracy, just the Demorats. When the Demorats get a brain, backbone and a moral conscience. oops, that will never happen.

Live overseas anywhere for one year then you will see the differance . It isn't perfect but the world is at our doorstep waiting to get in . In Italy they shoot the knee caps off the Judges to get things their way . You have to educate yourself to see whats going on.
