I spent several years in the USMC so I can't speak for the Army ect. But there were a lot of guys in the Marines that would not be a canidate for the Rhodes Scholarship.

In the USMC they seek out that special skill for the guy that carries the base plate for the mortor. Say a 300 plus pound gut with a 84 IQ

i don't think so. i would say there are just as many idiots in the white collar club. kerry was taken out of context and the republicans are lame for jumping on it. i am ex-military and i know several people personally that are thinkers.people do join the military for financial reasons. i joined because my family has that history. whatever the reason, courage is the first requisite. courage to know that you could die but you still sign the paper anyway. most people in this country won't show that type of bravery. remember we have an all volunteer military.i have friends who say it is crazy to join the military and i say you are stupid if you don,t. no civilization has ever sustained itself without a strong military and to think that even one of these people are stupid is ignorance personified. these people die on behalf of this country, Republican, democrat KKK or black panther. wise up.

Who paid for your education ? The point is when you join to go to school and serve in a voulenteer Army are you less an American or more ? Kerry bashed not only education but must be in favor of the DRAFT then everyone gets a ticket! He should resign.

Before you insult your intelligence any further. . .You should know that 99% of military personnel a high school education or better. And 88% of non-military personnel have a high school education or better. Over 90% of military officers have college degrees and 56% of non-military personnel have a degree. I hate posting facts followed by demands of links to prove a point. But just because I really want DEMOCRATS to enrich their education, I will point you to the Department of Defense. Then after you learn the truth, what type of apology for your ignorance will you give? U.S. ARMY 1981-1987 and PROUD OF IT.

One gets stuck on the horns of a dilemma here.
On the one hand, you don't want to demean the US soldier, who does a hard, thankless job.
On the other hand, some went into the Armed Service, as there was no other direction in theri lives, as they did not do all that well in school (and before you slam me, I knew a person who did that)

I spent a few years in the Army, and I can testify that most of my co-patriots were candidates for Rehab University.

good point. the fact is that it is often the POOR, not the stupid, who join the army, though there is a lot of overlap for obvious reasons.
