He does not have to live there. In the past when Prime Ministers were all rich and had grand private residences, some of them, like Lord Salisbury, chose not to live there. There was silly talk floated several years ago about turning it into a museum; I think if it's getting too small all the advisers should move out and it should just be a home.

The Prime Minister could choose to relocate Government to anywhere he/she wishes within the UK.
London is the most obvious place to house the Prime Minister and Parliament as it is the largest city in the country.
There is no reason whatsoever why the Houses of Parliament shouldn't be in Bognor Regis or Halifax, and the Prime Minister reside in 12 Uppington Avenue, Runcorn.
London is not central to the geography of Britain (that's somewhere in the Midlands), so there is no reason.
Seems to me though, that the current Prime Minister lives in the pockets of the buffoon in the White House, and I don't mean the white house in St. Albans!

I think the PM should live in different cities for at least 3 months of the year.

He or she should be made to commute at their OWN ex pence, using public transport. Now that would be an eyeopener.

The trouble with these money grabbers is that they do not know what the average citizen in this country has to put up with daily. They sit in their cocoons in Westminster, and every decision is based on "how will it affect the South East"

I say **** the S/East, what about the rest of the Country?

Close 10 Downing St. and MAKE the PM commute.

Tony does not live at number 10. It is just a glorified office as he has said himself. The PM's official residence is at Chequers.

This PM stays at No11. He swapped with Gordon Brown because he has big family and No11 is a bigger house

You thinking of applying then?
