Well, Microsofts motivations are pretty transparent. Real freeware browser alternatives are coming up like Firefox and Opera, that a lot of people find a lot more pleasent to use. IE7 contains the same stuff as previous versions of IE, but the layout is more like firefox and it supports "tabbed surfing".

I think the problem is, the sophisticated users have all already moved on.

I have been using IE 7 since the first release candidate came out. I am very satisfied with the new version. IE 7 adds many features which were already available in other web browsers, including Firefox and Opera. So you can say that IE 7 is playing catch up. The new features work smoothly without any major bugs. The layout has changed dramatically and it feels a little odd at first but after awhile you will adapt. My toolbars and other browser help objects (BHO) work without any problems after updating to IE 7.

Some users have commented on the loss of speed in IE 7 and there is a good reason. IE 7 comes with an anti-phish feature. When ever you surf to another website, IE 7 will connects with Microsoft and matches the website to their blacklist of known malicious websites. If the web address appears on the blacklist, IE 7 will block loading of the webpage. If not then everything is fine. Of course, connecting to Microsoft, comparing the web address and giving it the o.k. takes time. And that is why users experience a delay in IE 7. The feature is turned on by default but it is easily disabled from the menu bar.

I use all 3 web browsers, IE 7, Firefox and Opera and as a rule i don't compare them to one other. Instead, i evaluate each one on its own merits. That being the case, I would recommend IE 7 because it is a mark improvement from the previous version and is now more feature complete.

I never download ANYTHING from Microsoft that has not been on the market at LEAST 6 months first. I let all the FOOLS out there go thru the headaches first.
Not to mention the fact that all Microsoft did in IE7 was copy all of Firefox's cool features..nothing original. Great job MS....NOT!

I only got it for the security updates, even if you don't use IE7 as your primary browser, it still patches some security holes so I reccomend getting it even if you have no intention of using it. I would not use IE7 over Opera or Firefox.

i had it and switched back to IE 6. i liked it and it has some cool features however it has the same problem as fire fox which is annoying. it isnt capatible with all websites yet. so now im gonna wait a few months and then maybe ill try again and see if theyve made any fixes. i dont like going between browsers i like to use one browser and be able to do what i want with that one. IE 6 serves that purpose.
