Depends on what you want.
Being in the union means you work and are made sure of that you get a decent pay and that you don't suddenly get fired for no reason. It has a sense of security to it. However most of the time you have to be in the same industry or company for the rest of your life in order to reap the benefits.
Being in the miltary means you do your duty and make enough but will most likely have to travel or be away fromou family unless they want to relocate with you. You have to be willing to die for your country and be emotionally capable of handling some tough stuff.
The best thing on the long run is really following your passion whatever it may be. This way you are your own boss and work wouldn't be boring because you do what you enjoy. And nothing beats having a job you enjoy.

IN any type of Union a person can be laid off.Military, you have to be where they say .
I worked as a police officer in 2 Texas cities for 20 years. I did not really care for the work but I retired at the age of 52. I have a very good retirement for the rest of my life. The retirement is state sponsored and almost all the cities are part of it.All city employees can participate in the retirement system.
