I'm sure there's still alot of bias with recruiting men only but as long as the experience and qualifications match the job duties and you pass any pre-employment physical exams, etc., have good refernces and a stable employment history...there's no reason a woman shouldn't be hired! Consult your Human Rights office if you think you've been dicriminated against. Good Luck!

While most women cannot handle the labor involved in construction, there are plenty of women out there doing just that. I've met several women working on jobsites right along side male counterparts. Some electricians, some plumbers, and even some carpenters and laborers. Some have to pass a lifting requirement test just like the men do. Same as UPS or anywhere else with some physical effort is involved. Good for them I say and to hell with all the jags on jobsites that have trouble dealing with it.

I am not aware of any studies on work productivity that compares white-collar and blue-collar workers. In general, white-collar workers are better compensated (both in terms of prestige and monetarily) than are blue-collar workers. However, in an automobile manufacturing plant, blue-collar workers produce a salable item (cars) while white-collar workers do not produce anything that is salable. On the other hand, some white-collar workers may be involved with the merchandising of the cars, which promotes the sale of automobiles. Therefore, attempting to compare the "productivity" of the two different work forces is virtually impossible.

From my own experience in construction you have to believe me that woman arent cut out for that as a career.
From a physical viewpoint they just cant compete with men and from a technical viewpoint they are just too anal about all things from drawings to health and safety laws.
Seriously Building aint a career for a woman.

I know women that work in construction. If, you have the education and physical ability you should be able to find work. Just do not expect others to do your part if you not able, because, it is equal rights, not, give me a job and someone do my work.

They do. I see women, near my home, working on the reconstruction of a section of Interstate 79. They usually hold the red flags or the traffic control signs. I have seen one using a shovel.
Why would anyone want to do hard, dirty, dangerous work if they did not have to?
