I was watching NBC News last night or this morning, and the reporter said that if you like Kerry, you view his comments as the bad joke he claims it was, and if you like President Bush, you view his comments as unconscionable. If you assume both are true, which I somehow doubt, what of those of us who neither like nor respect either of those individuals?

Before I'm asked on yet another political question, no, I'm not a socialist. This name is a joke based on a user ID I once created that combined Engels' name with one of the most recognizable and commercially successful songs of the last three decades, in hopes that it would have Engels rolling over in his grave. I'm a libertarian, though one who is torn between neolibertarianism and minarchism.

Because of community guidelines, I can't print my initial reaction to Kerry's comments. However, the gist of my reaction was that he put his foot in his mouth all the way up to the knee. This election should have been about the issues, but this close to the election, knowing that Republicans are every bit as likely to jump on a potential advantage as the Democrats... Kerry should have known better. For the record, I'm hoping the Democrats win at least one house of Congress. I'm more comfortable when power is diluted among more people, which is why I was happy in 1994.

He was at a liberal college, in a liberal state, and talking liberal politics.

He knew his audience and said what he said because he knew they would respond favorably to his words.

Except they didn't, because what he said was insulting, not funny. It wasn't a joke, nor was it intewnded to be a joke. It is insulting to soldiers, vets and the stuidents he was addresssing.

He was not misquoted, nor was it taken out of context. He said what he intended to say. What he didn't expect was that he would be caught.

What he said was politics. The context in which it was delivered was politics. That he said it has nothing to do with politics, it has to do with poor taste.

Kerry is full of it. I've listened to that sound byte over and over and there is no chance he was going to add a zinger to GWB. He said exactly what he meant, and as is the problem with most liberals, their ideas are not popular or correct. Many, many years ago the courts often gave people the option of going in the service to avoid prison time. Usually the crime was petty and the person poor. Not having any money to afford an attorney most of these folks took the military as the lesser of two evils. Again, this was many years ago, and now our military is one of the most highly educated on the planet. So Kerry's comments show two things, his total disdain for the military and the people who proudly serve in it, and that if you put a microphone in front of a politician long enough, he/she will say something stupid.

I favor Bush over Kerry as our president... however, I view Kerry's comments at a botched joke.

I hope this was a leaning lesson for him. In some cases you just do not joke about things... Kerry and education, Rush and Fox, etc...

I think Kerry made a huge mistake by even attempting to joke along these lines. Just goes to prove you better to think before opening your mouth. Almost anything you say can be misconstrued by someone not listening or or partially listening.

i comprehend a some states that vote for Kerry in 2004 will opt for McCain this time round, Michigan because obama did not needed to have a election there that counts. And Pennsylvania it really is my abode state. because he lost the democrat election the following. This state has many genuine looking Reagan Democrats in it. this must be an extremely close race. Its like my abode city of Philadelphia vs something of the state. i imagine this time McCain might want to win because allot of democrats received't vote this election or vote McCain. So i'd placed this state in McCain column. The west coast states would also opt for McCain Oregon and Washington might want to o.k. opt for McCain. or perhaps california might want to be a lot nearer for a replace do to Arnold Arnold schwarzenegger and Arizona is next to it. the total lakes states and midwest state execept for Michigan might want to opt for Obama. also possibly McCain can stole one or 2 states in New England too. in spite of the indisputable fact that it really is going to be puzzling through Ted Kennedy and John Kerry because they both are from there. yet, i visit New Jersey or lengthy island going for McCain besides. lengthy island is the position Hillary is from and New Jersey is a decrease to and fro state, even although latey it really is a democrat state.. yet why do I care I going to vote self sustaining in any case. I in basic terms locate the stats are interesting. I have a feeling McCain receives a minimum of three states that voted for Kerry very last time. And Obama my %. up another small states contained in the mid west or large plains section that Bush picked up very last time. in spite of the indisputable fact that it really is in basic terms not adequate to triumph over McCain because of those Obama turns over.

Because many look upon things witht the blinders f their party.

There are a good percentage of people in this country, who actually beleve W is a bright man. They don't listen to him speak and ponder why can't he formulate a coherent sentence. They get their news from rush, O'Reilly and Hannity. So they hear and see only that one closed minded position.

You are fortunate to have no blinders. You are a better judge of what he said. But won't be taken seriously.

I think it is a non-issue, because it is obvious over his career, that he is a strong military supporter and patriot. He served in Viet Nam, but had the courage to report war crimes. He believes in America, and believes we should hold the spot atop the world in both economics AND morality, instead of just economics.

I hope that helps, and would love to know your opinion. Is it as obvious to you, that it was intended to be a W punchline?

Kerry might have been trying to make a joke but in doing so his opinion of military people was transparent. The English language is the English language and it was pretty clear to me though English isn't even my native language.

I beleive it was a joke about the President. But with the Rep/Dem war going on of course they had to jump on it. I don't like Bush, and Kerry says dumb things that never help him (or his party) out.

Well I think Kerry is dumba** for saying what he said.I didnt think it was joke he meant what he said. He was saying that if you dont do well in school your going to end up going to Iraq because your not smart enough to go to college. That wasnt a joke about Bush and his adminstration. He knows it wasnt. Im not a republican or a democrat. Im an independent.
