My 2004 dodge stratus will not start, replaced battery still nothing....my brother said it could be the starter. My question is if it is the starter how long will it take to get a new one and fix it if I get a mechanic to look at it.

Starters don't take that long to fix depending on the make of vehicle. Your car it would probably take one hour tops. I replaced one in my dads S-10 a couple years ago and it only took lmaybe 45 minutes, he was a mechanic for 8 yaers.

if it is the starter it will take 45min to an hour to fix and how ever long for the delivery for them to bring it. most likely they will check and see if it is the starter first. does the engine turn over? or just click. could be just a solenoid. sometimes that is all it is and no need to replace the starter. get it checked before jumping to conclusions and paying too much

If you don't even hear a click when you turn the key it's not the starter. Somebody needs to poke around the solenoid and battery with a voltmeter to find out what's wrong.

it could be fixed the same day! first let a mechanic look at it and make sure that it is the starter and not a different problem.

i.e. it could be the starter relay switch went out, or the fuse for the ECM could be blown, your ignition switch could have a short. there are many possibilities.

Starters are not hard to change, with the proper tools someone who knows what they are doing can change one in an hour or less. Have someone who knows what they are talking about make sure it is the starter before you buy one, some of them are kind of expensive.

depends on where it is, i'm not familiar with dodge. it shouldn't take but about 20 min. from start to finish if he has the parts. i can tell you if you have a mechanically inclined friend, it would be a lot cheaper to have them do it. the starter is going to set you back at least $150.00. good luck.

if the shop you take it to has a starter in stock for your car they should be able to get it done in a day. if they have to order the part it will be between 3-5 days. when you take it in be sure to have them run a diagnostic test to see if the starter is the problem.

Always check the starter solinoid, it either needs terminal cleaning, or replacement, in fact clean your battery terminals also.
