Your Virtual Memory setting may be too high. On your desktop; right click on top of your "My Computer" icon, then left click on the Properties Button. Click on the Advance Tab and select performance. Change the settings from your current settings and use only 1050mb for both the initial and maximum virtual memory size.
Afterwards try to clean out your cookies, temp files, temp internet files; and repeat this again with the local settings on the c:\; under your sign-in profile (c:\document settings\ your profile\local settings). Yes, last clean out some unneeded files, or applications.

Right click My Computer and click Properties.
Click the advanced tab, click settings under performance, and click the advanced tab. Click the Change Button
Click the radio button for System Managed size. This makes windows dynamically assign you what it thinks is the correct amount of virtual memory. click Ok to close all the windows, and reboot if it says you need to.
Make sure windows is up to date, and go through all the software that you use to see if they are all up to date.
Adding more RAM won't hurt, but if your page file is at a fixed size you will still get out of memory errors. Use system managed size, or assign a huge static amount, like 2000MB initial size to 2000MB maximize size. (I'd recommend the system managed size though)

It means that you have run out of physical memory and are using Virtual memory, this is more than likely that you are running out of disk space on your hard drive. Consider removing apps you no longer use or games to free up disk space, then run a defrag. But most importantly go down to your local PC shop and get a RAM upgrade.

virtuall memory is something computer use it for its own purpose. u cannot extend this memory becuase it is not physically available. as known from name it is a virtual memory. check ur window task manager. press ctrl+alt+del to see what processess are running. thee are plenty of programs running right now and processor is not getting much space to do its work. if u still have same problem then extend ur RAM and if possible go for HDD as well.

try this. log on as administrator, then click start, control panel, system. click advanced tab. you see three sections under performance click settings button, on the visual effects tab ijn performance options click adjust for best appearance button.
This will cause xp to lose most of its cool look but will save RAM.
Click advanced tab make sure programs button is selected for processor sceduling and memory usage. under virtual memory click the change button you see the virtual memory tab virtual memory allows xp to use a portion of your hd to store memory data when RAM is running low. you should let windows xp manage these settings so make sure that the system managed size button is selected. click ok twice.

Your 'Virtual Memory' is an area of your hard drive the PC uses as memory. It should be 1 1/2 times the actual memory you have on your PC. Thus, I have 1gb of memory, and i have set my virtual memory to 1.5 gb. Go to CONTROL PANEL >SYSTEM>System Properties 'ADVANCED' tab Performance Options > Virtual Memory > CHANGE. This allows you to set up your virtual memory size. You will need to re-boot to get it set up.

It could be that you have got what is known as a memory leak (the computer not freeing up resources when programs were closed). I used to have these problems with Windows Me. If you shut down your machine (power down) and restart it this should get the memory back

Try closing some of your applications. You may have too much stuff runing on Startup or logon.
To see this stuff, go to www.sysinternals.com
go to Processes and Threads
Download Autoruns..5.3
Unzip it and install it
Run it and see how much stuff runs on startup.
You should be able to determin if you need the things or not.
Unchecking trhe options removes the startup option but doesn't delete the entry from the Registry (so you can go back and have it auto-start later)
Deleting the entry removes it from the registry and you can't get it to atart automatically again.

winxp needs at least 200mb hard drive space to run. upgrading your ram will not solve this problem. only solutions delete ro remove files or upgrade your hard disk or give less space to or disable system restore disabling system restore is not a wise option or run disk clean up to free up more space.
