Driving home last night which was a brilliant idea in the first place, I hit a curb with my right front tire. The whole wheel is moved back a few inches and the tire is actually rubbing against the inside of the wheel well. The tire is definitely toast, much of the tread is ripped right off, but the car drove the rest of the way home.
So my question is if anyone has an idea how badly I screwed myself, and whether this was just knocking the wheel way out of alignment or did I more likely break/bend something vital to my car's general well-being. Just wondering if anybody knows about wheels. It's a Honda Civic. Thanks.

Yeah, I guess I already knew it was bad, I was just hoping someone would lie to me and tell me it would be a nice and easy inexpensive fix. Thanks for the answers.

OOOWwww!
yeah, you pretty well hammered your little car.
"A few inches" is pretty radical movement for something that we consider 1/4" or 1/2° to be extreme adjustments.
Get it to the front-end shop, or the dealer or your friendly repair facility SOON.
Further damage could result and your SAFETY are involved.
Good Luck

without seeing the car first hand i could only guess what went wrong. leaking hose, loose hose clamp, hole in radiator, leaking freeze plug, leaking water pump and so on. the car is 7 years old and i am guessing you never serviced the cooling system which should be done every 5 years or 50k miles. If not, old coolant becomes acidic and eats away at the pump, freeze plugs, head gasket and so on. The engine is aluminum and soft to begin with so neglecting to perform a $40 flush is fairly cheap and simple unless it gets ignored, then it becomes a very expensive repair. gl.....

this is going to be quite a costly repair. alignment is the least of your problems. there is very little play in the automotive world. that few inches is a lot of damage. your front end needs to be looked at asap. have your car towed to a frnt end shop. dont drive it.

I would estimate about $2000 worth of parts to fix this and about as much in labor. You may want to crawl underneath to see how much u bent - but I would imagine that it's a lot.

you broke something and you need to take it into a mechanic before thinking of driving it have it towed. it is no longer fit for the road. do the right thing and have it fixed properly. once on the hoist they can show you what you broke

the axle of the wheel probably just moved back so just stop by a wheel store and ask how to fix it

I don't know what it will cost to fix it but it sounds like there is much more wrong than just alignment. I would think it will be costly to fix.

sounds like the spindel is bent or broke. if it has a rack and pinion, it's probably messed up too. get ready to be bent over for the repairs.
