When he completely rounds out his game and is good enough to play anywhere on any surface against any style of opponent. He's not quite there yet. Federer is.

Nadal has a one track game with which he has had good success against Federer, but there are too many players on the circuit who own him right now...Blake, Berdych, to name a few...Fed himself has a reputation of losing to players a lot initially before he starts to dismantle them.....

Nadal needs to optimize...his game is youthful right now and won't help him even two more years down the line..when Fed will still be a force and newer more complete players would have come in....

But if you're a Nadal fan, take heart from the effort he put in Wimby this year...he's trying to be exactly what I mentioned above...volleying, trying to vary his game, etc....I havent' been a Nadal fan but I really started to admire him for his effort....

Next year? no....Fed's still gonna be there....2-3 years down the line? depends on how he improves...

Probably wont become no.1 mainly because if federer retires then nalbandian will take over i can see gasquet moving into the top 10 too

he will never be #1. He would have to play significantly more tournaments than federer because unfortunately he will never have anywhere near as good a record playing in the same amount of tourneys.
