At my school, we have to do one out of expressive arts, art, or design and technology. I chose expressive arts as i was told it was the one to do if you wanted an easy A and to focus on your other subjects.

However, none of the 6th forms seem to have any interest in it, and so i'd like to know if it would be better to switch to Art or tech and get a lower mark, or stick with expressive arts, in which i am predicted an A, or drop it altogether and work on dragging my Spanish mark from a B to an A.

I am doing 10 GCSEs other than my arts course, if this helps.

Many thanks,
Ali

Just so you know, expressive arts involves filmmaking, photogarphy, drawing, pretty much anything like that...but our teacher teaches music so it proves u dont need much...

It is a completely different subject to ART, which involves more dedication and harder work, for which reason it seems to be more respected.

If you enjoy Expressive Arts, by all means, carry it on. I did two languages (rather than an arts subject) because I enjoyed learning new languages, and because I sucked at Art, Drama and Music.

A 'B' is nothing to be ashamed of. A lot of employees/colleges/university are only looking for A-C grades at GCSE now. Everyone is getting them these days, whether it is the quality of teaching that has gotten better, or the exams easier.

Of course, if you find it too much of a hassle and don't enjoy it, you could always drop Spanish, if you are allowed. I know I would!
Good luck, whatever you decide. :)

There's a lot of core subjects you're already doing so don't give a thought to what "sounds good". Your optional subjects are there to help you find out what you love, what you're good at, what sort of person you are. In the real world, employers want people who are well-rounded and have a lot of interests other than what looks good on paper. If you enjoy this subject, even if it doesn't relate to your specific goals post-GCSE, stick with it!

Although I would say that it doesn't sound like an "easy" subject anyway, sounds like something that will develop your analytical, critical and creative mind.

Sounds like you're a very conscientious student, that's a good thing but don't get too hung up on things like this- an education is a very valuable thing but the actual specifics matter less than you might realise. All my colleagues have degrees, but I'm not even sure what most of them studied, let alone the A-Levels and GCSE's!

I think stick to it if you enjoy it. there's a lot more money to be made in the real world from the kind of work you've been describing than in straight art! GCSE's don't really matter in the big scheme of things apart from Maths and English if you take your education a step or two higher. I read CVs for a living and the GCSE results are kind of at the bottom, experience is what counts.

Art is no easy A I am afraid my daughter did art and she had a lot of work to do and not enough time to fit it in but did do in the end. She got her A and now at college doing art loving every second of it as well with lots of students doing art.It is worth while so forget what others say in school.
I would go with what you think you are best at and what you enjoy doing the most not think of the mark because in the end you are the one who has to do the work no one else. What ever you love/enjoy/good at doing you will get your A that is what I advised my daughter do what she wanted and she walked away with tons of A as she enjoyed all subjects she picked.

it doesn't matter what GCSEs you do, all that really matters is what grades you get at the end.
