Good question. Here is an answer. Opium comes from the poppy harvested in Afghanistan. It is used to fund the Taliban and other terrorist organizations.
Morphine (INN) is an extremely powerful opiate analgesic drug and is the principal active agent in opium.
Heroin....Well you know those wonderful people who make that safe product called aspirin? Bayer... They invented Heroin. They were the first company to synthesis Morphine into Heroine. Look in your dictionary under Heroin.
Cocaine has been around a long time. It is from the coca plant grown in South America. It is processed to make it into a more powerful agent. It is rumored that it was once in Coke but in an inert way. The type used was not the same as Cocaine. It was closer to the coca leaf. So it is not true that Cocaine was used in Coke.
IN the case of heroin it was invented to be used as a narcotic to put people under for surgery. Morphine was used to kill pain as was Laudum. People who had cancer used it.
Now your argument about Pharmaceutical companies is that they make mistakes, push their drugs on the market too soon. They are drug pushers. They contribute heavily to both parties. They are funded by insurance companies and HMO's as well as by doctors. They also invented these opiates.
Marijuana is an weed or an herb. It is similar to growing Basil. The synthetic extract is THC. It too has been synthesised to make Caneb and angel dust. Both are dangerous.
Ecstacy was not a harmful drug contrary to what people are told. But when the drug is on the open market with no regulation it is anyones guess what you will get. It was like LSD a legaly made drug. It was experimental and never hit the market because the FDA never approved it. Both were used as psycotropics. The military misused LSD. Therapist used Ecstacy.
If the govenment can't collect taxes on it they will be pressed to iradicate it.
Cigarettes are legal. But alchohol is restricted. Try ordering a case of wine from California to Utah.
Your God answer assumes there is a God. Maybe but if so man made drugs are chemicals and everything is a chemical. We are chemicals. So God made Chemicals.
If you want to smoke pot go ahead but look at the Bong pipe and how encrusted it is. Watch it crack from the resin. That is what is hapening to your lungs. Not to mention it makes you slow in the head. I stopped smoking due to allergys and because I was tired of being as dumb as my friends.
A safe way to enjoy pot is to put it in brownies. No lung damage and it actually has a stronger effect. You can even use the cheap stuff. You can grow up to six plants in California. It is decriminalized. It should be legal but then plan on it costing more and becoming weaker and regulated.

Oy vey. First, cocaine is derived from the coca plant, which was one of the original bases for Coca Cola (and long-since been replaced by caffeine). Morphine and heroin are opium-derivatives, the latter of which is pretty much exclusively peddled by drug dealers, not pharmaceutical companies.
Your entire question is loaded and makes extensive use of the logical fallacy known as "false comparison", and also ignores some fairly basic facts. The War on Drugs has been supported by both Democrats and Republicans for decades, even as it becomes more painfully obvious that it is a battle that cannot be won, and therefore, a battle that should not be fought.
I have never smoked anything, consumed any illicit substance, or consumed any alcoholic beverage in my life, and see no reason to do so. However, I believe it's more wrong to use force to punish people for harming themselves, as long as they harm no others in the process. I definitely sympathize with your stance. I just think it will take intelligent arguments if there is to be any hope for this occurring. Your comments above do not qualify.

Opiates like Morphine and Codine have been used for a long time for medical purposes. Likewise, marijuana has been used in folk medicine for a long time.
The only reason I could ever see for keeping MJ illegal is that our government does not want to get it under controll. If that is the case then someone must be making a lot of money off it. No doubt the drug companies don't like it because they can't make any money off it but that can only be part of the picture.
I don't know if I'd call this an abomination, but it sure is wrong.

cocaine comes from the Coca Plant of South America. Indians have been using the coca plant for thousands of years.
Heroin is derived from the Opium Poppy which can grow in many different climates.
Morphine also comes from the Opium Poppy.
No it is not fair to lump marijuana, which is practically non-addictive, in with these other drugs.
The Pharma companies don't just give heavily to the GOP. They also give a lot to the DNC.

Cocaine came from the plants i just don't remember the name. Morphine and Heroin are made from poppy seeds which is why if you eat poppy seed bagel or cake you will test positive for drug use.
I think marijuana should be legal since unlike booze or cigarettes there isn't a rash of people being killed by marijuana use anything like those 2 legal substances

They also came from God with a little help from man for distributation to the masses. You forgot the worst drug of all: alcohol. This is the drug of choice for leaders because it makes their troops violent. Add a little speed like Hitler did & wars will never end. However if everyone was smoking weed or on some other type of opiate they would be too laid back to fight nevermind die. The only way to get them to fight would be to take away their stash or have them going through withdrawal.

Well-- see answers above for sources of cocaine, morphine and heroin. Marahoochie-- well, you know where that comes from-- the plant itself is smoked.
Drug companies contribute to both parties-- don't be naive.
But they're not necessarily as evil as many make them out to be. They invest billions of dollars to come up with stuff that helps people with ailments. Yep, Vioxx, Paxil etc. can cause problems-- but those are the risks. Practically all drugs have side effects and stuff happens. So, are you willing to live with your ailment or try something to hopefully help you.

like to rant do you? why don't you do your research on the effects these substances have on real people?
all three are natural substances that have been outlawed because they alter consciousness in a dibilitating manner.
i am guessing you have never actually met a junkie, been attacked by someone while they were high, been robbed or otherwise injured by someone using narcotics. have you ever been the spouse or child of an addict? were you born addicted to one of these substances or had physical deformities due to prenatal use by your mother? get out into the real world and see the real results then go introduce yourself to someone whose life was saved by a prescription medication. after you have done that, i seriously doubt you will hold the same opinion you have now......unless you are an addict.

Cocaine is a crystalline tropane alkaloid that is obtained from the leaves of the coca plant.
Morphine is an extremely powerful opiate analgesic drug and is the principal active agent in opium.
Heroin, also known diamorphine or diacetylmorphine is a semi-synthetic opioid. It is also known under the street names "big h", "chiva", "black tar", "brown sugar" and "retard face". It is the 3,6-diacetyl derivative of morphine (hence diacetylmorphine) and is synthesised from it by acetylation.
