If India was suddenly elected to the UN Security Council, Pakistan would have a fit. May I remind you both of these countries have nuclear weapons.

It probably wonder what the point it - when the US chooses to ignore it because bush has a wasp up his hoop about the way his dad was treated.

Perhaps if ever the UN has some balls and people follow it, then it might be worth joining - for now it seems to be a toothless debating society.

The security council has perminant seats, which no one can get who doesn't have one, and rotating seats. Thus, India just isn't on the in rotation currently. Maybe in several years.

Because the UN's organization is still stuck in the aftermath of WWII days and not aligned to modern realities.

well, its because the un is a corrupted body run by thugs. it needs to go, its taking up good real estate space in ny. they should shut it down and make low cost housing for the poor people in ny.
