When a heater core is replaced professionally the time is estimated by the book. The mechanic has all types of air tools, jacks and a lift. Someone doing a heater core in a driveway or home garage can hardly compete with the price. Because of limited tools and resources, doing the job at home takes much, much longer, so a fair price for the mechanics time would be more than the garage would charge...!! Figure its gonna take two days, I'd say three hundred dollars plus parts would be reasonable if everything is done correctly.

Depends on where you live. some shops get as high as $100/hour in some ares of the country and some can go as low as 1/2 that or less. Probably would be cheaper to take to a radiator repair shop, as the heater core is just a small radiator and they specialize in this.
