This can be a serious problem. Many times these kids do not have a social life, are not healthy (physically) and may not play sports. How can we treat this problem?

Get the kids envolved in other hobbies. If they like to paint, get them paint by numbers, or model cars. If the child is having these types of issues, perhaps the whole family needs to get envolved in something. For example a Friday Game Night. Twister, Monopoly, Clue, Trivia... or outside games like playing football or frisbee. Parks are great for kids if the whole family goes along. Just pack a picnic & head out for some fun. :) It will not only help get them away from the TV, but it will give them exercise & a chance to be social with other kids too. Bring their friends along for the day. :) There are a lot of kids who don't like sports, but in my experience I have found it's because they think their not any good at it. They need to be taught that no one is perfect, we just have fun doing it & that's really the point.

There is so many directions to approach this....hmm, I'll mention a few.

First of all. Playing online games, video, pc, etc---brings kids together. Playing with their "friends" although some are across the world or the street-is where kids feel they have that social life.

I'm surprised you haven't mentioned TV addiction--sitting on their butts all day watching tv, I see no one complaining about that. I see that as far worse than what you think video games do. ---but staying on the topic.

It's the mentallity of the kids, some kids just go to school, come home-sit and watch tv. Others, aren't into sports, but play video games once and awhile.....its not a problem. It's a hobby.

You should encourage that person to take up a new hobby. Do something about it. Some parents just keep buying their children that new game-or game console....it's not bad but, if they're the ones complaining about how they can take their unhealthy kids who don't play sports....try signing them up for a class--dance, martial arts...

Cold turkey worked for me, the problem to solve is -> figuring out what to do when not playing video games
Solve that and its easy to stop.
