It is not easy to stop. A person has to be a warrior. Ultimately it boils down to a personal decision to be happy because, as far as it is known, there is only this life. Don't waste it worrying and putting yourself down.
Experience as many new things as you can because that will keep you from thinking about the past and it will give you the only chance of transforming yourself.
The mind cannot think of anything new by itself because the mind is the "past" so it always reverts back to the old pattern thinking and you know what that is.
Have you noticed that when you are really involved with something, other than yourself, your attention is not on a personal problem? I suggest reading Alan Watts "The Taboo of Knowing Who You Are"

I used to do that too. So now you can realize it's not just you. I saw that several posters said the same thing. I overcome it by practicing self-talk, not out loud, but force my mind to think how silly it is to even expect perfection or for thinking that it's even possible. I also make myself think about the positive. Dwelling on the negative is depressive. Everyone is a unique individual with their own gifts and talents, so try not to compare yourself to others.

Good luck!

I'm searching for the answer to the question as well. Anyway, I get out of it by thinking about a situation when i did something good, achieved a goal I've set for myself, made a difference or helped somebody out. This way I realize that my contribution is important and that I don't have to be perfect.
Understanding from those I love also helps a lot.

To answer this question, you have to look at what gives you the opinion as to what "perfect" is, and what conditions you to believe what is perfect and what is not. Don't let others make up your mind for you as to what is right, or "perfect" for you to be, think, act. Also, If it is someone telling you that YOU think you need to be perfect? Ask them what they think perfect is, what you feel THEY want you to do to be more normal, like them, then stay away from them and their motives of trying to change you. That would fall under the realm of "their issues" Stay away from these people or conditioning stimulii. Be you.

me too. I am pretty sure it is something that everyone goes through a few times in there life.Really you could look at yourself and come up with a never ending list of stuff thats not perfect. Hair, nails, teeth, tan, hips, eyes,........never ends, just don't compair yourself to other poeple that are "perfect" It will make you feel alot better about yourself.

Stop being so unrealistic about yourself. Everybody has failures. The most successful people in this world have all suffered failure. It is part of being human. We all get down on ourselves from time to time. That's normal. Would you constantly remind your best friend of her or his failures or hound them that they are not perfect? Of course not. So be your own best friend, and let it go. The more failures you have, the more likely you are to be on the verge of success. So get going again already! My best to you.

Often times people think much too highly of themselves. That leads to numerous problems, one of which is believing one has to be perfect or acceptably close. I am not bashing you here, because I was where you were 15 years ago. My remedy was to humble myself and realize that NO ONE is perfect. Once I managed to control SELF things became much more easier to deal with.

if you love yourself for trying to be yourself without caring what other people think of you, because it's better to love yourself for who you are than to be perfect - if that exist - and not love yourself. there is really nobody close to perfect and most people dont care about it - don't get down on it because you are sensitive for it, just try to love yourself for who you are and try to be happy.

everyone does that...you just have to suck it up and deal with it..NO ONE is perfect...if you think you are or that you should be then you need some serious help....find something that you love...get a hobby...a pet something...you have too much time to think about all the bad stuff that you have done...which wouldn't be a bad thing....if you thought about something productive

Nobody is perfect and that is what you have to understand and comprehend, and that you are not the exception. Everyone has flaws and makes mistakes and you have to live with that.
