I'm a transvestite (unfortuantely for me) and I've always wondered what salegirls at Victoria's Secret etc. think about guys who are obviously shopping for themselves and/or ask to try on women's clothes (which I also do). I don't go shopping in a wig and dress, but I do wear women's shirt, pants and shoes. The clerks are almost always polite, but I wish I knew what they say about me when I leave.

A few understand and don't mind because they are making a sell, but most are probably trying not to laugh, or smile too broadly. They must act professional. They probably tell there co-worker's, and family members about you, and laugh really hard. I have only tried very much not to smile too hard in front of my patron, but yes, we remember you.

I have worked at Victoria's Secret for more than a year now and I have had a few transvestite clients. I have no problem with helping them and I do not care how they are dressed when they come in. I do not say anything bad when they leave either because there is nothing bad about it. One time I kicked two girls out of my store for comments they made about one of my clients so I don't turn around and do it. You shouldn't care what anyone says anyway, as long as you are happy.

Well, I'm not a transvestite but am a male who refuses to recognise a lot of predefined boundries in cloathing (my partner- female holds the same view) We both shop for what we want whatever dept its in. Most sales people dont care, if they do I give them a dirty look "whats it to you" etc

Best time was when I was trying on a pair of boots with a bit of a heel on. When I paid for them, the assistant said "we're not supposed to comment unless asked by the customer but you look great in those. Wish my boyfriend would loosen up a bit and wear something like that but I could never get him too!"
That made me feel good

In this day and age it shouldn't be all that weird for a man to want to dress in women's clothing. Unless of course you're from the Midwest, where I'm convinced they all live in a nice little Bible bubble.

And don't feel unfortunate. Transvestites are the most feminine people I've ever met. I admire that.

Personally I always liked when cross dressers came into the department store where I used to work. I found them to be friendly and very open to whatever suggestions I made for them.

I think it depends on the clerks' personal opinions about cross dressers. I never said anything to my coworkers and if another salesperson would ask me about the customer or make fun of them, I would walk away. I think it was disrespectful to make fun of any of our customers. But I know a lot of people will comment after wards.

It all depends on where you live too - people in bigger cities see cross dressers more often and are less likely to be fazed by them.

I worked at Macys Union Square in San Francisco for a couple of years while I was going to school. Occasionally a crossdresser would come in and ask to try on clothes in the lady's dressing room. The stalls were private and, as far as I know, no one ever complained about it.

We had one regular Drag Queen who always wanted to try on evening dresses. We would laugh together because there aren't many strapless evening gowns in a size 22.

Sales Girls shouldn't really have an opinion on transvestites.... When I was working in retail - we had one come to our shop - and only one person made comments about the person - It was great to see everyone (A crew of 8 or 9) tell them that they were a paying customer and to 'not' be so rude.

It was great to see.

I'm sure they see that a few more times than you think. And I would think the worst thing they would say would be "wow, did you see that?" Just like most people who haven't seen a cross dresser would act.....A little fascinated.
