is it more secure to have a STOP LOCK that locks onto the steering wheel, or one that locks the hand brake to the gear stick together?

Either is good, but the kind that sticks out of the steering wheel is really visible and a better deterrant.
None are proof against a determined thief, on my old Fiesta it was the steering lock that put the thieves off. They broke the doorlock and removed the handbreak Stop Lock, but the manufacturers steering lock foxed them.

If your car is fitted with an immobliser and an alarm you shouldn't need to buy a stop lock, if it's not ,then personally I prefer the hand brake to gear stick lock, I think they are harder to remove if anyone breaks into your car.

steering wheel one...but only the big bugger tht covers the whole wheel...the bar ones can actually help cos they give u btr leverage for breaking the steering lock if ur planning on taking the car and the handbrake gear thingy comes off too easy

I think you can use a knife to bypass the lock. What about the kind that requires a thumbprint. Or the kind that stops the car when it's been broken into, locks the bandit in and calls the cops.

Get a DiscLok it covers the whole of the steering wheel and is Thatcham cat 3 approved (mecanical devices) cost about £80 but is worth it i have got one.

Depends what car it is and how easy it would be to steal. I know of someone who had their car nicked twice, once without a stop lock, and once with. Apparently the thief's saw the stop lock and saw it as a challenge. With two people forcing it, it's quite easy to get off.

Not convinced either are particularly good. The gear shift definately not (I had a car stolen twice) with the lock on. Lok at Thatchams web site they review all those types of devices

Any auto thief worth his/her salt (mustn't be sexist must we) would blow both of those so called antithief devices away in seconds. get a decent lmmobiliser and your halfway there, the other half buy a wheel clamp like those bastard clampers use, if its good enough to stop people moving their own cars, it will deter those thieving low life w***kers. trackers are also good but pricey Don't let the bastards beat you.

dont bother they take about ten seconds to crack,better off with an imobiliser
