You need to purchase the key because Norton can now detect illegal copies of their products. They have been shutting down the protection of those illegal copies on computers without a legal key.

They started doing this from 2006 Norton products onwards.

Norton is cumbersome and really doesn't work that well anyway. But if you insist on using it, the product key is in the box you bought the software in. If you bought it online, check your email. I suggest using a different antivirus though, like AVG...it's free and works great!

I work in the IT world, if a PC has problems the first thing we look for is "is Norton installed?" and then get rid of it!

why bother, in my experience if you have norton you have viruses..... get panda it cost about the same and works far better
