Psychoanalysis is rarely used in today's society. Mostly, because it is time consuming, sometimes lasting years with several sessions per one week. For this reason managed care (health insurance companies) do not want to foot such a large bill.

As an alternative to psychoananlysis there are numerous other excellent therapies which are just as effective if not more so than Freud's Psychoanalysis. One such theoretical model is Cognitive-Behavioral Psychotherapy which is quite effective.

Again, Psychoanalysis is still used today, but not nearly as frequently as it was prior to the 1970s.

It depends on what you mean.

If you mean, "Is there a place for Freud's techniques" then I'd say "no". Freud's techniques, and notions, have been refined and honed and in many cases been superseded by modern ideas. I don't know of one therapist / psychologist who has a couch in their office.

If you mean, "Is there a place for psychotherapy" then I'd say "yes." Modern techniques are faster, and therefore, more cost-effective, but they are still built on the foundations and tradition started by Freud.

What you have to ask yourself is does contemporary society exist once you psychoanalyse it?

Of course. Real, five-day-per-week analysis is expensive, but important.

as long as people can't understand themself as much as they want to they will probably always rty to understand themself better, and there is no other way than to analyse their problems or their character I think
