The top middle drawer of my chest of drawers is stuck and I can't open it. I read somewhere that using a spatchula can help but it didn't work. What would you suggest?

The chest and the drawers are all wooden. When looking up at the bottom of the drawer, there is no obvious reason for the jam. There is no way to see the contents of the drawer while it is stuck since it is the top drawer and has a fixed wooden base on top of the top drawer.

Depends on how the drawer is stuck... If it's stuck from age or swelling, etc. you can try removing the drawers directly below it and to the sides and see if it is open inside to where you can get to the drawer. If so, you might be able to see what's causing the jam or at least where it is. You can try using a small object as a prybar by wedging it behind the drawer and prying outward gently to free it. If there is something in the drawer that is getting caught against the front lip of the cabinet, try using your hand if there is enough clearance or the spatula if not, to pry downward on whatever is causing the jam and slide the drawer out.

If you manage to get the drawer free and it is caused by sticking/swelling, rub some paraffin or candle wax along the area where the sticking occurs. It will help next time you face this problem.

My 90 year old father has a FR400 Steel case lateral metal file cabinet. After moving him to a senior community, three of the four drawers were stuck closed. I ve been able to get the bottom drawer unstuck. The next drawer up opens and closes. The top two drawers do not open at all. I set the cabinet on a flat piece of shelving for leveling (there is carpet in the room). The key goes in, but does not turn to lock. The cabinet was working perfectly before moving. It Was on a wood floor before moving. Is there a way I can get the top two drawers to open ? Help!

If there is an obstruction, see if you can remove top and bottom drawers to investigate and remove it. Some times drawers get stuck if you do not pull both sides evenly, push it back all the way and pull it out keeping both sides even.

Remover the drawers below it and above it. Then look underneath to see if it is binding anywhere. This will allow you to see the problem better and to be able to move the drawer around easier to unbind it.

Without knowing was type of drawer system your chest-of-drawers has, it would be tough to answer your question. Do you a metal roll system, or wood on wood, plastic, etc?

try pushing the drawer in and try to push one end in a little further than the other. Just work it back and forth, the swelling in hte wood will go down if you have it well heated in the room.
