Flash devices are newer than disks, but do essentially the same work.
The computer doesn't much know the difference.
Maybe Vista will have you "insert a flash device into the drive". Yuk!
It's synonymy....

It is possible that the drive is damaged as this is a common symptom. Try formatting the drive, if possible or try using the utility software from the manufacturer (if they have any).

drive letters are mixed up. goto MyComputer and look at what drives you have (C: , D:, etc.) and make sure that you are using the drive letter for the USB FD instead of your floppy or CD Rom.

EIther it is full and there is no room left, or it has never been formatted.
Try to right click on it and format it.
