everyone keeps telling me that I will be able to tell the difference between my one months olds cry's...well they all sound the same to me. sometimes when she crys her hands are just going crazy (moving really fast infront of her face). I want to be able to tell if shes hungry (so i don't just make a bottle and waste formula), if shes dirty, if shes tired. Can anyone help??

Yes, you can tell the difference but it takes a little time, I don't think you learn that in a month, esp, if this is your first child. By the way crys is spelled cries.

You will be able to tell the difference, but it takes time. Like for example, my son, has a shrill, high pitch almost scream when something hurts, and a more low key cry when he is hungry or dirty. The way my husband and I tried to figure it out was to just do a quick visual of his body, to see if anything looks like it could be hurting him, then check his diaper, then just hold him for a bit, try to burp him again if it was shortly after a feeding, and then offer him the breast. So it was a sort of trial and error for us. You are right, they do all sound the same at first, but you will get to know what she wants.

Congrats & best of luck! :)

You'll get them soon enough. I was the same way I didn't know either! But my son is 5 months old now and I am right about what he needs 99% of the time. I would first check her diaper. If this doesn't help then start to rock her to see if maybe she is sleepy if she is still crying chances are she is hungry.

Good luck

I could tell from a couple of weeks my son's different cries. He had his very weak cry that just let me know that he was awake and that he would like to get some attention.

He had his little wail that wasnt very loud that meant he was tired.

He had this one that just sounded pitiful like as if he was hurt, and that was the dirty diaper one.

And last but not least, and definitely the most distinguishable was the blood curling howling scream in which he would hold his breath, turn bright red, and etc. That was the FEED ME NOW cry.

if u dont wanna waste fromula and u think she might be hungry try breastfeeding her if she wont latch on or turns her head away shes not hungry if u think shes dirty change her diaper rock her if u feel shes tired all these things u have to check for no matter what cry she lets out! that way u can make sure all her needs are taken care of

Well I really don't know that it's because I know his different crys as much as I know his schedule. It's just going to be trial and error. What I did was try everything else but feeding so I didn't over-feed him and then when nothing else worked I would feed him. Then finally I knew his routine, after 8 months it is much easier but watch out because as they get older their schedule may change a little bit...they may take more or less naps and they may eat more or less. It will get easier!

I didn't so I don't tell people that. Once she got older and could rub her eyes and things or reach then I could ofcourse. Until then we just timed her feedings. If she ate at 4 and it was 730 she's probably hungry. If she slept for 6 hours and I know she usually sleeps for 10 etc. etc. YOu just kinda have to use what ya know. Even if youre like me and its not a lot.

you will catch on eventually. some times you can tell a difference. Try checking other things first, then making a bottle. you will figure it out. I can actually tell the difference between my two girls screams from far away now. when to go running to thelp them, or if they are just being a pain.

congrats on the mommy job.

It really depends on how old your baby is... But it does take time to tell the difference... I just put my kids on schedules as early as I could.. That way I knew that if they were crying it wasn't b/c of hunger or dirty diaper.. I would just put them in the crib.. But it does take time..

I could tell a pain cry but that was about it. All the others sounded the same to me too.
