If you do that, it would be illegal. I use OpenOffice, it's completely free and will open, edit and save as MS Word format.

You can't. Microsoft Word is copyrighted, and Microsoft likes to make money-- they don't give away programs for free.

That said, new computers sometimes come with 30 day trials of Microsoft Office (including Word). You can probably find one of those pretty easily, perhaps from a site like www.tucows.com or www.download.com, but it's really annoying when the 30 days runs out and you can no longer create or edit documents.

The other alternative is to use a peer-to-peer program like Bearshare (available for free from www.bearshare.com) to download a cracked copy of Microsoft Word or Microsoft Office. Be warned: It is ILLEGAL to do this, but I know of people that have, and have gotten away with it. In fact, everyone I've ever known that's tried it has gotten away with it, but that could, of course, change at any time.

A better idea would probably be to just buy a copy. You can get the student edition of Microsoft Office for $99 at Wal-Mart, and then you can rest assured that Microsoft won't come beating at your door for stealing their software. :-)

Hope this helps!

Don't try to steal MS Word -- it's not worth the hassle. Instead, get OpenOffice, which is a complete office suite similar to MS Office but available free of charge. It will read and write MS Office files flawlessly, and has most of the same features as MS Office. I recommend it highly.

You can download it from http://www.openoffice.org if you're using Windows or Un*x. For Mac OS X, go to http://www.neooffice.org and get NeoOffice/J, which uses the same codebase but is packaged as a native Mac application. Good luck!

I don't think you can get MA word for free legally. You can find older versions or student versions relatively cheap.

If you really want free try Open Office Suite.
