The brand of this router is Westell. I have an e-machine desktop. I also have this blue cord that came with my computer. Could that be of any help?

So how does the wi-fi come on?

Does your DSL router have a pair of antenna?

The "blue cord" is called a network cable. It can run from the back of your router to your e-machine. You e-machine should have a connection for it. This will let you get on the Internet without being wireless for now.

What brand of Westell is it? that will help determine what you need to do to enable wireless if it can handle wireless connections.

Control Panel/System icon/go into the Hardware Tab/click on Device manager. Expand Network Adapters icon in the list and make sure you wireless card is activated. If not right click on it. Select enable.

Turn off modem and router. wait 1 minute. Turn on Modem ONLY. Wait until there either 3 solid lights or 2 solid and one blinking.
Then turn on router. It may take up to a minute for your computer to establish a wireless connection.

also, Make sure you disable firewall., This could prevent you from connecting. Look by your clock (lower Left) find the "M" or "N" and right click on it. Select disable.

Make sure your IE is set up for broadband. Open up IE browser. Go to Tools/Internet Options/select the connections tab. Make sure that "Never Dial a connection" is checked and greyed out. All other things in here should be blank. Next Click on the LAN settings button in this same Tab. Everything in here should be blank. Make sure all boxes are unchecked..

make sure your modem is not in standby mode. If only one light is lit, then you should have a button on it. Press the button and all other lights should come on.

Do these things and you should be good to go.

Is your router a wireless router? If so, the wi-fi should be automatic. You need a wi-fi enabled computer (usually a laptop). Windows will automatically search for wireless networks in the area and give you the option to connect to them. Just connect to yours. You will also want to set up security for your wireless connection.

You need a wireless router and wireless card(s). The wireless router is going to covert the Ethernet signal to wi-fi. The wireless card on your remote computer will be used to communicate with the wireless router.
