I think it's supposed to be "Today is the first day of the rest of your life", no?
And my take on it is that what you do now dictates the quality of your future.
Tomorrow is the first day...means to procrastinate.
Why would you take a chance for tomorrow when you could get hit by a bus this afternoon or die in your sleep tonight?

It means when you realize you want to make some changes, and stop living the way you have been, tomorrow will be the first day of the rest of your life. You will be living life a new way, hence the first day.

Basically it just means that tomorrow is a new day with a clean slate, no mistakes in it yet. So you keep your sights on the future rather than living in the past. The saying has also been said that "today is the first day of the rest of your life."

I have had surgery twice in the last two weeks and today I had to go in to find out if the two very large tumors they removed from me were cancer or not. My life has been on hold since last Thursday and last night I thought I would never get to sleep.
I went in and found out that everything is alright. So today is the first day of the rest of my life. It means that I can start living again and make the most of everyday.

well, it means that you will always have tomorrow to start the life that you really want. we are in control of our own destiny. But if you believe this, then you can also believe the saying
" tomorrow never comes"
So,It is up to you to make today the day that you were talking about yesterday, and not wait for tomorrow, for tomorrow never comes!!

the figure of speech "tomorrow is the first day of the rest of ur life" is telling you that you have an entire life infront of you so start it wel; you have a whole life infront of you, and tomorrow is when you'll have another go at making it the best you can! it's for motivating ppl to live their life to the fullest by giving them a second oppurtunity the next day. now that you understand it, use it to live your life to the maximum!

It means that every passing minute, every passing second, is another chance to turn it all around. Shake things up. It means you have to look toward the future and start today what will get you to where you want to be.
There's another saying: "Don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today."

You hold the key to your own happiness and you can choose to remain as you are, or tomorrow can be the first day of the changes you make to take a different path from the one you're on.

It means that when you jump off the fence, you can choose the other side. The past is not written in stone and people have the great opportunity to change.
