Can a regular vet take care of them just like a cat, or do I need to find a vet that specializes in exotic pets? I really want one, but I want to do my homework first.

Ocelot's are endangered, so I doubt whether a person can get a permit to have them as a pet. Usually endangered animals are only permitted to Zoo's and sanctuaries, however you should check local and state laws and permits because your state may be different.

As far as a vet goes. Not all vets, just because they take cats, will take ocelots. Ocelots are exotics, and arent just like the regular domestic cat. Exotic cats have many needs unlike domestic cats and each species should be researched seperately.

A good friend of mine is researching the laws to get a Caracol(sp?) an exotic cat weighing around 30-40 pounds. A kitten will cost about $2,000-$3,000 depending on what breeder it is purchases from and the gender of the animal. I would assume an ocelot would be more expensive because they are a more rare species.

Keep in mind costs of obtaining and continuing permits for the life of the pet, let alone all the needs of an exotic pet, food, housing, toys, vet bills.

Goodluck with getting one. They are cute little guys!

Legally, you can't get one. To top it off, you wouldn't need a vet who specializes in exotics, you would need a vet who has a license to treat wildlife. Even then. many vets won't. Want to know why? Because they don't support people trying to make pets out of wild animals. They know why, how and where these animals were confiscated and they do not support those actions. They also are not legal to own.

The ocelot is an endangered species and is protected by the Lacey Act in the USA. This means that it is illegal to transport, export, sell, receive, acquire or purchase any wild animal taken in violation of the law.

The Cosco Scenera is $40 at Walmart. The evenflo triumph seats are also pretty cheap for what they are. For a good seat that rear faces to approx 45lb, and forward faces to approx 65lb would be about $150. Seats like the britax advocate c 70 cost around $400. The diono radian RXT is around $350. The evenflo triumph 65 DLX convertible is $159 from Walmart - it rear faces to 40lb, forward faces to 65lb. Great brand and value for money. I'd definitely go towards this seat
