Most archers shoot recurve and a few are on compound bows. But I'm a polished stick man myself with pine-shafted arrows and goose fletchings. It's pretty crude compared to the high-tech stuff and not nearly as accurate but I enjoy the longbow much more than the other two, which I sold. I don't go to a club now and just plug away in a field. A club would give you the basics but I've always found them short on fun (I know, it's potentially dangerous) so I shoot alone on sunny days. Clubs tend to compete a lot and I can't be bothered with that. Maybe you'll like it though. Search through GNAS for a club and have fun! Oh, EBAY has some very cheap longbows in oak and ash, maybe fifty quid. Not the best but they're not rubbish.

My Dad's done archery for years - he loves it. I know for a fact that there's a club near Coventry, but that may be too far for you. If you want, I will ask him for any he knows of near you, or any associations you could ask.
