Can anyone point me in the right direction? My daughter doesnt want to go to visitation. She has not seen her father in over 6 years... he now wants to start seeing her again. Does she have to go? She is going to be 12 soon.

12 is pretty good age to choose for oneself, but you will need a attorney on this one I think

You should take a look at your divorce papers and see what they say. If you weren't married to her father, file petitions to have his parental rights taken away, which can be easily done since he hasn't seen her in 6 years. Talk to your attorney, though. He/She can give you all the answers you need. Lots of luck. Hope things turn out for the best for your daughter.

I can't say I blame her. It sounds as though he decided that he didn't need her in his life for a while and has changed his mind several years later. Very selfish of him!

You will probably need legal advice on this though. He could turn it around and make it seem as though you are denying him visitation. Seems rough on your daughter to force her to see him when she clearly doesn't want to.

Best of luck.

You could either talk to a lawyer or search for a website in your state. Since all states have different laws for this, it would be best to find your states codes. Here is a website to start you out:

I don't think she has to. If he has not been in her life for six years, she doesn't even know him. Ask an attorney to be sure.

After 13 I think the courts listen to the child. Please contact legal aid to see what your state law require.
