ive just been asked this teaser by my neighbour can you help?

6 seats. The 4 grandfathers are also the 4 fathers. That ='s 4 seats, and 2 seats for the sons.

yup like lisa said. the fathers are grandfathers too and the fathers are sons of the grandfathers so they are not only fathers but sons too. but u just count them once for being a son and a father.

Can you not para-phrase the question the "...." bit is what has me confused. Is tha supposed to be 2 sons?
*edit* that wouldn't work, as the fathers then would also be sons

its to do with there been more than one generation of the same family, ie grandfather is the fater (who is also a son AND father of his son) who is the grandson of his grandfather, gets me?
